Just another good site

FSH, TX

http://www.bobsmoleys.com/exotic.html This place has some nice Brugmansia for an inexpensive price. When I started collecting each small brugmansia cost about 25 dollars, but as a hybrid becomes older and more are to be had its nice to see the prices drop. Hope you all like this site.

Thanks for the link! They have a few Passifloras!

Tim,
They have a few cacti etc as well. This is a very eclectic type of place-but I consider the place tops as far as prices go and as far as variety well, they should be included somewhere besides just the Brug forum.

I got a white aurea today from valleygrow.com. Great plant for what I paid.

Tig, now don't you make me envious of you. You know how I like those aurea hybrids. Can't bear to see someone else with an aurea hybrid as that means its one less in my garden. Shame on you Tig!!! Just kidding, you guys are wonderful. Mental note to self, Have to sneak to Tigs to get her aurea....

I don't think it's a hybrid, he sells them as white aurea. it's a little baby, about 8" tall, but I hope to have several divisions over the winter so I can do some hybridizing in the spring. I am still in awe that I have two seed pods right now on Dr Seuss.

Tig,
You didn't know that I love non hybrid aurea's just as much if not more than the hybrid aurea's? The non hybrid aurea's have a much smaller flower and I just love the smaller flowers. Just call me weird ayy. Okay, I confess, I love them all, most important to me is the fragrance though if the truth be known. Versicolor alba, Dr.Sues, Jamaican suaveolens, etc...mmmm, but I must confess the fragrance can change just as the shades can change or the nature of the pollen seems to change depending on the weather.

question: what would Dr. Seuss x Isabella be, and what would Dr S x Frosty Pink be? those are my pods.

FSH, TX

Dr.Sues x Frosty pink would be Insignis and suaveolens type flowers as I have done a whole slew of those crosses. Very large flowers for the most part and very good seed setters. Dr.Sues x Isabella I have no idea on, but I imagine that would be a much better cross than the frosty pink. What one has to remember is that the Dr.Sues is an aurea x suaveolens x versicolor hybrid so it is predominately versicolor though not enough to make it readily apparent unless one crosses back to a versicolor then one gets a few versicolor hybrids. What one has to remember is that when dealing with hybrids with 2 or more species you can often get only 1 species to show up instead of a blend. I prefer the blended effect for the most part. So, crossing Dr.Sues x Isabella to an aurea or a candida hybrid would be my personal next choice.

I guess my question was that surely these crosses have been done before. And therefore named, correct? Just wanted to know what i would be ending up with, or is each cross different from all others? See, so much to learn.

You could cross those or any other brugmansia and never come up with one that was identical to the one I have...-close, but not identical and there is so much variation that you could come up with you own unique Tig hybrid that was worth introducing. Every cross is unique to at the very least-the extent to which it can be crossed to its sister as Brugmansia are most commonly not self fertile.
