I was at the local market picking up cake and ice cream for my sons bday. I can't pass up the floral dept anywhere.. I bought myself a beautiful cyclamen, and made friends with the employee in charge of the floral dept. I was telling her about my addiction and so forth. She asked me questions on how to properly care for some of the plants.. I shared what knowledge I do have and apparently she was impressed. - I picked up a basket that had two plants in it, one a golden pothos and THIS ONE.. she said that THIS ONE has been dropping leaves since it starting getting cold (and her dept is near the doors)... I told her I'm not sure but it might be Hoya.... she told me if I would take it home and care it she would sell me the basket with both plants for 99 cents.. I took it..
We exchanged names and numbers.. She sd that often when plants don't sell or they decline and no one buys them (and she really don't know what to do to save them) she will call me and I can have them for 99 cents or $1.99. She also told me to stop by about once a week or so, or she will call me. I'm so EXCITED.
Anyway.... Is this Hoya? If so, which one? If not, What is it?
Is this Hoya ??
Hi Tracey,
Though the foliage does look succulent and resemble Hoya I believe your plant is Peperomia: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/137615/
Thanks Linda.... Thats alright.. Its still an attractive plant. I did finally go to the Chinese restuarant and ask them if I could take a cutting, and they allowed me to take a small one. It seems to be growing..

Alrighty, I just pulled the golden pothos and the non-hoya that Lin ID'd as Pepperoni, ahem, I mean Peperomia out of the basket. Each plant is sitting inside a 3 inch tall plastic tray, and the Peperomia was sitting in 2 inches of water. No wonder it has been dropping leaves. The pothos was also sitting in water, but not as much. then they had the decorative plastic wrap around them. I took off the plastic and poured all the water out. I put them in the sink to drain. I will repot them into new better soil soon.
Thanks Christine. Its hard to believe it though.. I used to kill everything I touched... About a year and a half ago I decided to try my hand at it again. I bought two houseplants and did fine... After them surviving for 6 months or so, I started expanding.
I love it, I love it, I love it... I just LOVE playing in the dirt. : )
Daisy...as most houseplants are tropicals that can be grown indoors, (including hoyas) you might just get a book or go on line about growing them...Lots of good information.
