School Bus Wreck
Moodene,I am glad you and the children are O.K.
Josephine.
The driver of the pick-up truck must have slept through his physics class in high school. Moodene, I'm so glad you're O.K. Having 58 kids on a bus that was involved in an accident is more sensational than having 47. Now-a-days, sensationalism seems to be more important than accuracy.
So the pick up got himself into 2 accidents: one with you and the other with himself, lol. (laughing only because no one got hurt) It's not easy to be rear ended by yourself. Though I've met myself going around a few corners, lol.
If they HAVE to get your age wrong, why couldn't they have said you're 21 or something? I'd like to experience being that age again for a day or so myself. Glad you and the kids are okay!

Nadine, I had no idea you were a school bus driver. You were fortunate no students were injured, and you are O.K., too! I drove for 27 years. In that time, I was rear ended twice. Both times at the railroad tracks, and both times I was empty. It is still scary.
Isn't it amazing, the stupid things you see people do, just because you "you" have become so safety oriented?
Well I finally got my own bus back..my kids were happy..that pickup hit the bus so hard..it broke the rear axle of the bus.. I am glad that my bus was not full. I drive a 84 passenger blunt nose and have 80 kids ride... No kids were sitting in the area of the back wheel base. all my little ones were up the front of the bus and was heading over to the middle and high schools..I dread going over railroad tracks myself but do it 4 times a day. Both are double tracks too..I myself teaches the people who wish to become a school bus driver and I preach, preach, preach and teach SAFETY comes first when driving a school bus..plus do not get in a hurry driving a school bus too..
You certainly do learn patience! Training is a difficult job. I was a "standby" driver, and frequently took new drivers out to show them routes. I drove a different bus each day. Never drove a blunt nose. I wish you all the best in the rest of your career.
I think that I love to garden because plants don't talk back!
Thank you! This year is my 10th year driving..and loving every mintue of it..LOL..Well The drug testing people came out after the wreck and I had to hold all my pee for 3 hours! Made my eyeballs float! But got the call late Friday that I was clean.. I knew I was..lol..I finally settled down from all this shaking and trying to heave whatever I had in my tummy.
We had some drivers wanting a wreck, just to be drug tested. Not their fault, of course, but it took 3 days to get it back! That was three days off with pay! I recall one driver who did her cup thing, set it on the floor, and promptly knocked over the cup! Took her three hours before she could fill it again! Maybe it was better to have to hold it?
OH Nadine I am so glad to hear everyone is okay and no one was hurt
Amen to your preaching about Safety we do that here in Tyler
The drug testing here is taken very seriously and you can get fired right there and then..no questions asked! I don't play around with my CDL license period. I am back to feeling normal and glad to be in my own bus!
You're right. CDL isn't anything to mess with. I still have mine, just in case I get a wild hair, and decide to go back. I will keep it in force for another round, since I have a few more years before I hit 66. But if I do, I will have to be re-certified. Yuck! I'll have to be certified! If I do, I sure hope they have come up with some new films. Some of them were pretty behind times. At least "Operation Lifesaver" tried to show us something new more often than the regular instructor. Isn't it standard to lose your job automatically if you fail the drug test? It is in all the districts I am familiar with.
Oh I hate the re certification too it is so boring and yes the same ol films and the monotone voices of the instructors.
It should be automatically if you fail I know we lost a driver due to that issue last year and if everyone is Zero tolerance it should be enforced if not.
do your districts get involved in the TAPT Bus Rodeo?
Cy-fair was/is heavily involved. Conroe has all the things to practice, and Willis has equipment. It takes a lot of teamwork, and dedication of the driver to put in the practice hours. When I did it, at Cy-Fair, we had about 30 drivers competing in the district. That same year, our winner also took the national title!!!! She was a family member, and we were all very proud of her.
last year we had 3 drivers from Tyler in it and yeah your right teamwork is important and dedication of the driver
I was informed that this year we will have our regional one in March but am not sure who will want to be in it as one driver form last year no way she won't do it again but then she works 2 jobs and is an older lady the winner of regional may do it again and I know there is one new driver that has said he was interested.
I'm gonna have to get the ball rolling to find out who is going to drive in it this year so I can get the course marked out and set up for practice.
I used to do it every year back in Illinois and came in 3rd the last year our district was in it but my heart is more into helping others with it now and training safe drivers ...just wish I could do that without all the drama with other team leaders at work *sigh*
Some people think that you are a big time brown noser if you get involved in things like this. They are the real losers! Ignore them, and do what you want!
