Pruning Lazarius...

Pahoa, HI(Zone 10b)

So, I am trying to raise Lazarius from the grave but never had a conifer tree get this bad. Should I take the dead "leafs" off? If, so then how far should I trim it back?

PS it is not my Bonsai...I did not do this...lol.

The plant is putting out new growth on the roots. So should I trim and if so how far? Should I leave only a stump? Someone must have experience in confers.

I'd trim all the leaves off it and smaller dead branches and leave just the main branches that are still green. Plant in a good potting mix and baby it for a while, might re shoot. Doesn't look like it'll make it though. goodluck!

I looked up Lazarius tree. What kind of tree is this?

I think the reference is to Lazarus, who was raised from the dead.

I don't know of any conifer that will revive once it gets to that stage. Unless maybe it's a tropical species that I don't know anything about. If it's a Thuja, Juniper, Chamaecyparis or such, it's a goner.

Hawaii_Farms isn't with the thread any longer but I'd like to share what I know. With conifers you're not supposed to trim off any more than 25% or the plant will die. He or she says that there was some life at the roots. I would have planted it and see what happened. I'd probably give it my MG Quickstart too.
