Jo, how could this have happened? I still don't have a plant. Must fix this by next year. They are a wonder.
Christi
I'm supposed to be getting some seeds from this years Piggy Swap. I'm looking forward to next winter. Can't believe I actually said that.
It is like blooms for the winter...but you have to look quickly before they melt! Not sure if any did their thing here. After I looked around at some of the wilted "blow-torched" foliage in the yard that Saturday morning, I was so depressed I just went back inside. It was just too much.
Sometimes not all of them will burst on one day. If they are in a protected area with other plants around it may take a second day. I love the blooms just as the Monarchs are coming south and the bees love it too. But as Linda said the display of frostweed is like blooms in the winter.
Can't remember if I posted these, but oh well at least I am not off topic.
Christi, I know, we were supposed to see each other at one of the swaps, but it never happened.
I hope this coming year we will be able to get together.

AJ, if you come I can give you one too.

Sheila yours did very well too, I am glad you got to see it at your place.
These pictures I took this morning at the wildscape, the ground was crunchy from being frozen, but is was worth going to check.
These are from plants i planted this spring.
Magic isn't it? Too bad the beauty is so fleeting. Thanks to both of you for sharing.
Christi
Glad to see your pics, I never seem to get out early enough to see mine
That is so beautiful. It looks like ribbon candy!
Yes, it does, and it is very delicate too.
I checked the frostweed out here...and yep, some of the stems are split, so they did it. But normally, the frostweed icing happens several times here with several freezes, until they are done. So with more low freezes, I might get to see it. There are tons of frostweed by the dry creek.
I hope so Linda, although it is not fun getting out there early on a freezing morning, the result is worth it.
They put on a show for ya. Missed mine or they did not do anything yet
Hi Ted I hope things are warming up there at your house.
My daughter and I caught the show with the frostweed you gave me, Josephine.
Now that I have seen that I am ready for spring. :)
That is great Dennis, I am ready for Spring too, but I guess we will have to wait a while.

Very neat picture Ted.
My Frostweed died during the summer. It succumbed to some kind of white stuff and ants. :(
Well, we will have to give you another this spring and hope you will have better luck with it.
I know, I'm trepassing, but That was beautiful. I have never seen anything like that. Does it just do that in your area??
It looks like spun silk. So unbelievable, Loved all the pictures, thanks for shareing.

The latin name is Verbesina virginica, so I'm going to say it's not limited to Texas. It might be that we notice it more further west, because there are fewer other things to distract.
It sure is pretty. We have ice that comes up in the wintertime, but I have forgotten what it is called and it is pretty too.
It looks like the water spews out and it just freezes together. However , it happens, it is beautiful.
Thanks
Yes, Verbesina virginica is native to many states including Georgia, so if it freezes at your place it can surely happen.
It is the juices of the plant that make those beautiful patterns.
Josephine.

Welcome.
I am going to have to pay more attention.
Thank you Lou, I feel most welcome. The Plants are
all pretty regardless of where they are grown.

I love that I fund this forum. I have gotten so many seeds and plants and love shareing the ones that I have too.
Most of the members are so nice, even when I ask Silly questions. But a lot of this stuff is new to me. Before I retired all I did was work, didn't have time to emjoy my plants and watch them grow. This year was my first hand-on with the Brugmansia and it has been a real
eye opener and eveyone has answered my questions and really helped. Now I got so many from lots of nice folks and when I get settled down to see which one are just stuck in there and which ones have roots. Such Adventures are wonderful, Thank you all very much.
