Forget Me Nots

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Can anyone tell me what species the tall Forget Me Nots, that you see in spring gardens are? I'm looking for ones that are about a foot tall, and they seem to be biennial.

Here's a picture of what I'm looking for.

I thought since I see them in cottage gardens someone here might know.

Thank you so much!

Those are really pretty! I wish I could tell you which ones they were. I want to know now too.

We've pretty much decided they are the species sylvestris.

Thank you!

Thank you for sharing what you've found! : )

I thought they all got tall with age. They just keep growing up and up until it is time to go to seed. At least, that's what I have noticed about for-get-me-knots. So lovely with spring bulbs, then they go out about the same time. Just let some go to seed, pull them up, and then next year they come again, or reseed.

The named varieties of the sylvestris I have do not seem to get tall at all. I think they are Victoria Blue. They top out at around 8-9 inches and are more stocky looking than the ones I'm looking for, which I would describe as airy.

They sure do seed around nicely though.

Well I finally figured out which ones I had..... they were the Field Forget Me Nots. I need to try the ones mentioned here because the flowers on the one I had volunteer were so small you could hardly notice them. They ha dthat classic flower, just tiny tiny.

Meredith, I found seed packets here for pretty a reasonable price. The company is rated well on Garden Watchdog. I'm going to get the 1 oz packet, as I have a large area I want to seed.

Ohhhh, nice!!!!!!!!! Your garden is going to be so pretty in blue (and other colors). I really like the gilia. I will check into that. Great selections.

At least shipping for a packet is only 2.00.

That Gilia is supposed to be fragrant too! I have been trying to select more fragrant flowers, so I can enjoy the scent and the beauty. : )

I added it to my order which I haven't finalized yet. Thanks.

Oh good, I just realized there's two blue Gilias on there! The Bird's Eyes one is the one that's supposed to be fragrant. Maybe the other too, I'd have to doub;le check. : )
