Wonderful Brug experts--help? I purchased my first Brug this past fall. No name, which is fine--I just wanted to see if I could grow it. Well...I have it on my front porch and it was doing great. But we had a big frost a couple of nights ago and of course, I forgot to bring it inside. Naturally, its leaves are now dead. Have I killed it or will it, maybe, return in the spring--IF I bring it inside now? Or do I need to bring it inside since it is on my front porch which is open but covered?
Have I killed my first Brug?
If the freezing temperatures didn't last long enough to freeze the soil in the pot, your Brug will likely re-grow from the underground trunk. However, you need to move the pot into an area that will not freeze. An open porch would not provide enough protection.

It should be fine but you need to bring it in for the winter, right now! We are getting down to the low 20's for several nights, and that will surely kill it since it is in a pot.
Let any dead growth dry and then you can cut it off.
I am just to the North of you, and I winter most of mine in my basement, which gets down close to freezing for many nights of the winter. Most survive this rough treatment. If you want local advice for our area, dmail me.
I hate that you just have one. I'm sure I can remedy that!! Did anyone warn you that brug owners are terrible enablers???

Thank you ladies for the advice! I will bring my little brug inside for the winter. The soil in the pot is not frozen so I think she will be just fine.
Brenda--I'm certain brug owners are horrible enablers--just as the daylily and iris folks have been! :) But, that's ok--I don't mind being helped with my addiction to plants! :)
Thanks again for all your help! Maybe in the spring I will be ready for some more brugs...... :)))
plantRN you better get ready for the addiction, once you start worrying about one Brug befor you know it you will have twenty.I know, I have been there, done that. no one gives as freely as Brug owners.just wait until spring LOL

Welll....after looking at my one little brug girl, it occurred to me that I don't know her name--she's basically just a stick in a pot (a leafless one now). That makes me sad so I have my eye on some with NAMES. LOL!! But I have to make sure this little one survives the winter first. Then maybe on to bigger and better brugs.....
That's the addiction kicking in. Wait until you see your first bloom!
I have several brugs in pots on the south side of my house. They didn't have any problems there last winter, but of course the early freeze last week got to them. I don't have any place to put them inside...greenhouses are all full....Do you think they will re-grow from the roots? Should I cut them back now, or wait till spring? Should I cover them the next time a freeze is predicted? I didn't cover them at all last winter...but, it was a mild winter....
I sure would throw some mulch up around the pots.
Brug Addiction is on the rise here in Dave's Garden I started out with one, then bought another. But the ting is I didn't really learn anything about them til this year. Now I got starts of them everywhere. I have two in my bathtub in the exra bathroom, I have not watered them at all. They are still alive But there they will be til next spring. Welcome, plantRN.
