Does anyone have any personal experience of cats with Feline Leukemia.
My vet thinks that is what killed my cats. Two of my son's cats had to be put to sleep yesterday, with the same virus. He has one cat left, who at the moment appears to be OK. Dexter did go through a week or so of the same upper respiratory infection, but is currently showing no signs, is eating, drinking, and active. Tusi was doing OK until last Friday, then the upper respiratory thing hit him again, and last evening the vet said his lungs were full of fluid, and he was so pale, his gums were actually gray, with a yellowy tinge. Gizmo, the baby, who had been neutered along with my Parker, had bloody diarrhea last week, and lost so much weight, and was dehydrated, with congested lungs. His body temp was down to 95. We helped them both to the Rainbow Bridge.
Dexter is currently OK, we didn't take him along to the vet, but he is active, and his color is good. I've been doing research online, and it seems like there are some treatments. I've even seen on some websites, people actively looking for Feline Leukemia positive cats to keep their Feline Leukemia cats company, so I'm guessing that it must be possible for cats to survive for a time with this disease.
Has anyone had any experience with a leukemia positive cat? How did he do? What foods, supplements, treatments keep them happy and symptom free the longest. We're looking for quality of life, and won't let him suffer, but don't want to euthanize him prematurely, either.
Thanks,
Deb
