Narcissus romieuxii 'Julia Jane' blooming in December !!

Gent, Belgium(Zone 8a)

Hi,
I thought I should share this delicate beauty with all of you! :)
I fell in love with it while roaming around in the catalogue of a Dutch bulb supplier who has quite some interesting bulbs.
Beginning of September I planted them in a container and only 3 weeks later the foliage began to appear, which I found strange but thought might be normal for this specie I'm not familiar with..
But then in the second half of November I saw the first signs of buds appearing..???
Sure enough, the first bud opened at the end of November and now nearly half of the 20 bulbs are in bloom.
The weather has been exceptionally mild, even didn't had a light frost yet, not normal for my zone, right now it is 10°C!!
I have a bit mixed feelings about it though, their friendly little faces are more than welcome in this dark period of the year, but then they sure must be confused probably thinking it is spring! I can only hope it won't harm them to bloom at this 'wrong' time.
Until now they do look very healthy and happy..:)

Those are sweet little blooms.

Thanks Marie,
Yes they are charming little things! :)
I hope they'll come back next year as they seem to be rather picky, that's also why I will keep them in a pot. They would easily get lost in the garden.

I plantes some out in the garden similar last year and cannot find them at all now. Next year I will try some of the smaller delicate ones once more but will put them in pots.

Stunning! I love these and am going to try them again. They are worth cossetting them in a pot.

Thanks Galanthophile, yes, they certainly are worth pampering! :)
When you said you're going to try them again they must have disappeared, did you loose them already in their second year?
Its difficult to take good pics because they are so subtle, I took some new ones with a darker background, that's the advantage to have them in a pot! ;)

I think I have tried these one or twice a few years ago but just left them outdoors. I need a glasshouse!

Those are so cute, bonitin! Are you getting one flower per bulb, or more? I remember a one of Ian Young's bulb logs was pretty much all about them. I believe he only grew them in one of his "glass" houses too.

Thanks Leftwood! :)
Some of the bulbs have two buds and others only one.
The real winter has arrived here since about 10 days with loads of Snow, and hard frosts down to -8C at night! Bbbbrrrrrrrr....
So glad I didn't leave them outside. Some have just finished flowering but others are still coming up! I think I will have flowers til mid January! That is a long time for a Narcissus bulb I would think. But perhaps because there are no bees nor flies around at this time, they don't get pollinated so bloom longer, that's just a guess though..
I have them in a well lit but cool attic room.

They are adorable!

Thanks Dahlia! :)
There are still a couple blooming and to my surprise some seem to make seed, wonder who has polinated them ? Maybe a little fruitfly overwintering in the house..
