Apropos of Nothing v.5

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

We came from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1055785/

This thread can't be derailed because there's no topic. HA!

I got our big tree decorated yesterday. It's just shy of 9 feet tall with the star. :)

I'm still waiting for my BIL to send me ugly sweater photos. There are some pretty funny ones.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Tree pictures, please, Pony.

I'm not having one this year because of the cats, who like to bite through the tiny little cords.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

I'll take pics later today- still need to vacuum around it and get the tree skirt on.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Ooooh. I wish I was home decorating a tree. I did get my lighted choo choo train up yesterday and 1/2 my white lights to put on the fence. I'll see if I can't take a picture when I get home tonight.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Excellent. I love Christmas decorations. :)

Here's one of my um... 'less traditional' decorations...

That's pretty cool. Is is a vase? My SIL did something similar for the family one year. I like the hat, though.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

It's a glass head. :)

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Oh - literally. ;-p That's why it looked so much like a glass head. Huh.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

I think it is a glass head Kathy. LOL Nice touch Pony, you are so artistic. Tonight we finish our Christmas deco. Today I am being lazy. Well not so I have rearranged the living room because I bought my Karen an expensive massage chair that does everything neck to toe.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Ooooh. I want a chair like that. But it's better I don't have one. I'd never get up. ;p

The big tree:

That must have taken you forever to decorate. It looks very nice. And it's one of two?

(Judi)Portland, OR

Beautiful tree Pony.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Thank you. :) Yeah, it took a while to get all that stuff on there. But that's how I like my tree- packed full of ornaments til you can hardly tell there's a tree in there... LOL

The second tree is just a little 5 foot fake one, I didn't decorate it the way I normally do, and I'm really not crazy about it. It also didn't want me to get a good photo of it....

I've come around to fake trees because the white ones, at least, allow you to really spotlight certain colors of ornaments.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

I would love to have one of the white ones. And a silver one so I can make it a disco tree. hehe.

I keep saying "Next year- big fake tree!" but then we get a real one again. One of these years...

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I think tree #2 is lovely, as well.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Aw... thanks. :)

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Aaack. Is it just my computer being weird...? My screen here looks totally different, like the resolution has changed or something. It's bugging the heck out of me. And it's only this site.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Weird. I was just on Dave's Garden forum and stormyla was saying that she couldn't see the browse button. She opened another window in IE and then her view was okay. I wonder if these two things are related . . .

Very beautiful trees, pony! You are the Christmas queen! Do I see some American art pottery on the shelf?

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Steve, your Eagle pics were awesome! We have a couple of eagles here now and then, but none nesting that we know of for sure. They enjoy playing in the winds of our valley. One of the things we enjoy the most when we go fishing off of Langara Island in BC is the abundance of bald eagles. We have had them swoop and snag a fish out of the water within 15 feet of our boat....talk about majestic!!

Pony, your trees are just beautiful! I like both of them...different in styles, but both stunning. The big one reminds me of the one that goes up at Mom's every year.... full full full with ornaments from the past and the present. It was just finished yesterday... hopefully we can get her to post a picture. I am also dying to see pics from the sweater party!

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Hmm. Maybe DG is having bugs again. Break out the NEEM! :D

Pixy, I am a pottery freak. Vintage mostly, but some modern too. I don't have as much as I used to, because it took up too much room, but I still love it.

Julie, I'm still waiting for the party pics to be uploaded, my BIL is taking his time. There are some seriously hilarious shots, I wish he'd hurry up!

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

I went to my first "ugly sweater" party last year with a bunch of 20 year olds. They wanted to know how old people like me could dance, party, joke, etc. I really felt old but when I left 2 cute 20 year olds were hitting on me. Thank goodness for my line: "You so remind me of my wife, I miss her."

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Forgive me if I smirk. I'd like to hear the young women's side of that story.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Women today are BAD. That is the short and long of it. Any single (good looking intellegent, funny) man is in trouble. Occasionally I even have some. Lol

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Eh, I dunno. I can't tell you how many times I've chatted with XY&Z, trying to be kind (because no one else wasn't really interested in them) or friendly, or perhaps slightly interested in something they had to say, and it would get back to me that "XY&Z said that you were TOTALLY hitting on him."

Since men will not talk to a woman in whom they are not interested, they think that any woman who converses with them to be macking.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

I could see 20somethings hitting on Steve. He's very charming. In a gruff, chest-thumping, blood-of-enemies-drinking kind of way. LOL!

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

When the friend who invited me said that A & B want to go home with you that was enough for me to make my break. I have never been a wall flower and had a lot of fun at the party myself. It is just I still live where married is still off limits.
Thank you Pony you summed it up pretty well.

Ew, in any context it sounds disgusting, even if the 20-somethings really were going for it, ewwwwwwwwww ... gaaaaa i don't want to think about this any longer.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Judging from what's going on with Tiger Woods, I'd say that you're in the minority Summerkid. :-D How did that guy ever find time to play golf?

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Oh, I am so totally disappointed in Mr. Woods, the only thing I can think of that would be more shocking is if suddenly Jimmy Carter popped up with, say, Britney Spears. But at least Tiger's ALLEGED paramours were hanging out with an age-appropriate guy (looking for a silver lining here) ... I mean, Sofer, you're like 60 or so, right?

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

No way is Steve that old... if he is, he sure doesn't look it! I'd guess him not all that much older than me.

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Leaving Sofer's age & relative age-defying attributes aside ... and, of course, apropos of nothing ... except perhaps in keeping with wanting to share the image of the watch-wearing kitty:

My alma mater rolled 51-0 over its last opponent & is headed to a semifinal with Appalachian State on Saturday. Yeah, it's getting to feel like Normal City, what with this being Montana's 17th straight winning season & all, but holy smokes, they are GOOD this year.

It is readily apparent to me that Summerkid has never met Soferdig. This does not excuse the behavior of the little chits of 20 somethings who should be picking on someone their own age, or at least their own IQ, but still, he reeks of maleness so that's probably what they were after. Can't really blame them. Probably hormonal, being attracted to the fittest of the species and all that. No one that young is any judge of age anyhow. I'm sure he put them in their place nicely.
Steve, if you ever meet Summerkid in person, do us all a favor and keep the charm toned down, okay?

I guess I'm just jaded, but I'm at a point where I am surprised when famous or powerful men do NOT commit adultery. But Britney spears and Jimmy Carter? I think not. He is way too smart to be attracted to that, even though he admits to lusting in his heart. I do remember a commercial with Bob Dole, however. Pretty gross. Bob Dole, that is. Well, actually, Ms. Spears, too. So I guess that makes it double gross. Geez! Now I have to get that out of my head! Thanks alot, Summerkid! How am I supposed to sleep peacefully with that image? I am filled with disgust!

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Well, *I* have to go to bed with the image of some DG'er reeking of maleness, bleagh ... so we're all in the same disgusted boat here ... THANKS SOFER!

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

I'm eating popcorn.

So nyah.

:p

(Judi)Portland, OR

OK now I really have to meet Sofer. There are some pretty aggressive 20-somethings out there, and I salute him for fending off their advances in such a graceful manner.

One of my sons was the best friend of a classmate all through elementary school and high school in Westlake Village, Ca where we lived. The friend's name is Jerry Chang. Jerry went off to Stanford and was assigned a dorm room that was also assigned to Tiger Woods, and they became roommates and good friends, as well as golf team players. Jerry Chang went on the work with Tiger and became the manager of his charities (I think that's what he does now?). When Jerry got married, my son was invited to the wedding and the bachelor party that Tiger threw. He was told to be at a certain runway at the airport and bring his passport. I am still not privy as to where they went, but I was told that Tiger was a bit of a wild man. Too bad he hasn't grown up and matured like my son and Jerry.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Sorry I went to bed. Summer, sorry to make you so eeeeuuuuuukkkkkked out. I too find it relationally disturbing. I will post a recent picture so you can see, but feel safe Summer you are not my kind. LOL
I am a monagamous male in love with his beautiful wife. I do though like to have fun and meet people in my travels far away from home. I thought the ugly sweater party was people from my work and it turned out not to be. I though enjoyed being 20 ish again. We played games and they shot beer with the funnel thing. Lots of pot and it reminded me of my college days. It was fun. Sorry Summer.
