A quick discussion of tracking cookies and a link to the Privacy Policy, which has a link to the place you can opt out

Thanks for posting this - I just opted out!

Well I opted out and then went to Sirius radio which I stream through my laptop and now I don't have access to that. The message said to make sure cookies are enabled. I changed on DG to opt in because I love Sirius radio, and I also went to Safari (I have a mac) and made sure cookies are enabled but still cannot access my Sirius radio page. I called Sirius and their tech support cannot help with personal computer problems. Gggrrrrrr. Beware! Anyone know what I should do next?

Did you reboot after doing that? You problem don't have antivirus software since you have a Mac, but if you do make sure that cookies are enabled there.

I did reboot and yes, cookies are enabled. Then I called Sirius and asked to speak to a supervisor - I was on hold for 7 minutes then gave up. I called back 10 minutes later, told them what happened when I asked for a supervisor and they connected me immediately. The supervisor fixed the problem in 10 seconds. There was a problem with their website last night so it was all a coincidence. Then he gave me 6 months of internet streaming for free, to ease my frustration. It's only like 2.50 or so a month because I have Sirius in my car, but the gesture was nice. :)

Oh, wow. That's great. Persistence pays off, once again. And I guess we know why that last guy is a supervisor. It doesn't take much more than competence and respect to keep us customers happy.

All that's required is to DO YOUR JOB!!! And I guess these days to be thankful you have that job.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

The sad part is that "doing your job" has been redefined - it's not what it used to be.

Yes, that's so true. That was my experience with some of the people I worked with. It seemed like there was no middle ground. Either they didn't care enough or they overachieved too much and got burned out early.

My company is developing a human development class about Baby Boomers vs XGeners in the workplace. Examples used as to why this class is important is the expectation of flexibility of work hours (we didn't expect it) and work methods (work at work, be home at home), etc. It will be interesting just to hear these things defined.

Thanks katie, I also opted out.

Wow, I no longer have those irritating ads hopping all over my home-page. Is that the result of opting-out of the cookie thingy? If so I owe you some more plants. Did I ever tell you the daylily you sent me is quite a big clump and bloomed at lot last year?

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

That's good! I've heard people referring to opting out of ads. Maybe you did that in the same place? Or maybe it is with the cookies. Either way, I'm glad that it isn't bugging you so much anymore. I don't think I ever had some of those ads, so I must have opted out at some point. There are tons of options on DG that I still haven't figured out.

I'm so glad that the daylily is doing well for you. I had thought it was Stella d'Oro, but it looks different than some others I've seen. I got they with the house and I'm sure that they were put in at least 10 or 15 years before that, so maybe in the 90's? They really needed dividing.

I'm just looking forward to the garden tour and sharing a cuppa with you at your place sometime this spring.

Me too! Can't wait.

Holy toledo! Thank you Kathy, for posting this! I wonder if this started when DG was sold to the highest bidder. How irritating that is. Did you SEE the list of third party tracking cookies? It was extensive.

by the way, yes, there is a link on that dg page where you can opt out of ads. It's a separate 'click' from the opt out for the tracking cookies.

Speaking of the Tea Party, you will get to see the new green house and I have much work to do.

Maybe we could get a few more to come.

That sounds like a great plan, Patricia.

Some of my favorite posts on Facebook are those that tell me how to keep my privacy settings up to date.

I never have pop up ads, probable that I have tracking cookies but I clean up hard drive every month and there are a lot deleted. Suppose they get back on. Oh heck who cares. Nobody could track me anyway because I change my shoes 3 times a day. LOL

HAHA^_^

I am very much in the dark when it comes to knowledge about cleaning up tracking cookies. How does one go about cleaning a hard drive?

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Go Start then to Accessories and click on Disk clean up and it asks for which drive. C drive is my hard disk. So I have it cleaned by the skills of Bill Gates.

The only thing to know is that if you clean up your cookies folder, you'll also remove the "good" cookies that allow a website to recognize you when you go there.

Antivirus software will check for the bad ones while leaving the good ones. Or you can get rid of all of them and never allow anymore. You'll just need to be sure you know all your login ids and passwords for all the sites you go to . . .

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Yes that is true but you never get someone learning your passwords. I can remember those.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

It's not bad to do it either way. One should just make sure to know all their login information before getting rid of all their cookies, especially if one goes to lots of sites.
