I have crinums in the ground that I forgot to cover. Will they be okay? The leaves look frost bitten.

That depends on the Crinums.
Should I run out put them in a pot? What do you mean by depend on the crinum? The leaves look frost bittien.
We have some that freeze back every year but there are some that will not. Do you know the name of yours? If you do you can check the plant files and see if they are hardy.
variegated crinum
If I was to guess, they will come back from the bulbs. The ground should have still been warm enough in Houston to not do any damage to the bulbs. I would leave the foliage alone through winter if you can stand it. In spring it will put on new growth and then you can trim the crispy leaves off. Meanwhile, get out there and mulch the bulbs well with leaves, pinestraw, any kind of mulch which will protect the bulbs for the balance of the winter. Variegated sounds pretty... look forward to seeing some photos.
I've been removing the mushy leaves from bulbs. I have some idea in my head that the mush is an open would, prone to infection or infestation, whereas the crispy ones are just dead and no threat? Does that sound right or did I make that up?
I had some really fluky results with the bulbs - some that should be hardy froze and vice versa, but there doesn't seem to be any pattern as far as location or shade or shelter or soil or mulch.
I don't know on the infection. You know, with succulent plants you want to leave the damaged stalk on till it drys otherwise the open flesh is more vulnerable to cold, infections ~ whatever. The crinum foliage reminds me of succulent foliage so I would guess the same would be appropriate?
I will get out the mulch. Thanks everyone for your advice.
I have a variegated Crinum that I got from Moodine ( Nadine ) this Summer and planted it out. It is also mush. I just hope it comes back. It got down to the high teens here yesterday and that was our first frost. Freeze before frost does more harm than frost before freeze, the plant has no time to harden off. I can get another one but know that if this one can come through this winter it should be considered a hardy Crinum.
Mine has been outside for three winter here, but the last Friday was the wettest and coldest here. It was either kill it or make it stronger. Actually I think it going to be fine.
After three winters, they should be established. In my experience, the bulbs work themselves deeper. If I had to bet, I'd bet they will be fine. Please let us know...
Good luck with your plant too.
