"unattractive to flies" carrot variety ???

Calgary, Canada

One Canadian company is offering seeds for "Carrot Fly Away".
Has anyone come across a variety which resists the carrot rust fly?
Many of us in my neighbourhood have quit growing carrots because of the fly and the damage its larvae do.

There are several cultivars promoted as having some resistance to the carrot fly. Flyaway, Flyfree, Resistafly, Sytan .... Flyaway is reported to be the best flavored. I don't have a carrot fly problem so no experience with resistant cultivars.

CLScott - I don't have carrot fly, either. I wonder if yellow or blue sticky traps would work against them.

The other thing we can do is cover carrot seedings with Remay cloth.
I think it would take a lot of sticky traps to prevent them.
And I wouldn't know whether the flies had already laid the eggs.
It is the larvae which destroy the carrot root.

Someone suggested using wood ash for carrot flies. I've tried a product from Gardens Alive which seemed to make a difference, too.

A method which really works is to use a physical barrier. Carrot flies don't fly more than 18 inches above ground; so a barrier of that height will stop them.

There's a lot of useful tips at http://www.carrotmuseum.co.uk/cultivation2.html

Thank you for the info on carrots and the Carrot Museum site.
I shall use the info next season.
