Any thoughts or experiences on providing water for the birds in the winter would be appreciated. We have months of freezing weather here and I am wondering if a heated bird bath in the feeder area would be a good idea. Thank you.
Birds - Winter - Water
Probably not too good an idea - if birds are tempted to bathe in very cold weather, their feathers will freeze before they dry, leaving them iced up. They don't need water to drink in winter as they can eat snow.

We live just a ways from you AnnieRose, and have had a birdbath-water station for years summer and winter. Our birds do not bathe but the drink frequently from it in the winter especially when there is no snow on the ground.
At times we have had half a dozen blue birds drinking at the same time in the middle of winter.
Just saw this thread while looking for other DGer's in our area.

Hi Annie, I have heated bird baths in the winter and the birds just drink from them.
Thanks for the responses. I really want to try to have a heated bird bath so they can drink. Would love to pull in the bluebirds!
I had a pond with a tank deicer in it. It kept the whole pond open but was expensive to do so!! Heated pet bowls work too.
I never really saw much bathing except the crazy starlings would bathe and then go bathe in the snow too!
