Anybody interested in trading Rhipsalis cuttings?

Greensburg, PA

Before the weather gets too bad here, I'd be interested in swapping some cuttings of named rhipsalis or close relatives. I'll trade two of mine for one of yours that I do not have. If anybody's interested, I'll put together a list of what' available.

I'm also looking for some berries/seeds of rhips or close relatives where the ID is known for at least one of the parents.

Well, I got one Rhip, that was marked R tonduzii, which Rhipsalis.com says is R. micrantha forma kirbergii give me till spring if you want some.

That appears to be one I don't have, so I'll be in touch. Has it produced any fruit/seeds? Now is a great time to start them.

I have the generic monster-size Night Blooming Cereus and epi hookeri if you want cuttings.

Lili, Thank you for responding. I have those, I think. Mine does about 7" white flowers that only last 1 day. Right now, I am just looking for rhipsalis.

No there are no berries or seeds on this plant. Sorry, lets see what spring brings.

I have rhipsalis and have given many cuttings and rooted pieces also. Mine is hanging here in my greenhouse. It blooms white small flowers.

Forgot to say, it's the one in the red/orange pot hanging from the rafter.

Mekos, That looks like a specimen of Rhipsalis eliptica. If I am seeing the pic properly, you have a couple of stems showing the juvenile form of the plant stems branching into the more mature flat forms of the stems. You don't often see that in pics.

Yes that is what it is. It is a pot full and I traded some to give it more space but it is still too much in there. I was looking to trade some for a different kind if anyone has any different ones to trade. I can give rooted pieces or cuttings. It hangs under the canopy above my pond in the summer and in the greenhouse for winter. Doesn't get much care.

Greensburg, PA

I would do a trade, but I already have elliptica. I like a fuller pot for my rhipsalis, but that takes some time when starting with just a cutting. Also, I get some die back each winter, due to the dry house and limited light.

I have a couple of Rhipsalis if you're still interested.

Maureen, Do you have a name for the one in the second picture? It is very nice, especially for one grown in MA. I don't think the ones in the first pic are rhipsalis, however. The zigzag cactus looks interesting. I don't remember what they are called. We'd have to wait for better weather before doing an exchange, however, as we are deep in winter here (pun definitely intended!!) Definitely interested!

Yes, the first isn't a Rhipsalis. It's an Epiphyllum, commonly called RicRac plant - wrong picture. Sorry.

The 2nd is Rhipsalis calvatum. I am going to repot it in the Spring. I could send you some with roots then. It does grow like a mad man. The pot is too small and it's always thirsty. You can have a piece of the RicRac if you want that as well. It roots easily, somewhat slow grower. I put both out in the summer in a lathe house. Don't like direct sun. Let me know.

Maureen,

I'm wondering if there are several types or forms of ricrac. I have one that grows very slowly, but does not have the serration form of the leaves as strongly as your does.

I'd love a start of the calvatum, that's one I do not have. However, I'm wondering if that was a misspelling of clavatum aka clavata?

I don't really know. As for the spelling, kouldd bee.
