Sophie found me!

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7b)

Here is my precious Sophie that found me three weeks ago. My husband says she is a pug. She was hiding out in my garage one day. I walked out and saw a little skeleton dog hiding under the table saw in the corner. She was afraid of me and wouldn't come out until I brought her a bowl of water and a can of dog food. Still she wouldn't come to the dish until I moved back away from it. She was in terrible condition with her ribs and backbone and pelvis very clearly showing through her coat. Lots of scabs and boo boos. Looks like she was on her own for a while but I don't know how she survived. We live in the country with the hawks, snakes, coyotes, etc. Even have a huge Great Horned Owl that lives in our tree. I decided to keep her for a bit and get her back in good health and socialize her a bit before trying to adopt her out. I took her in and as soon as she got in the house she perked up and became very attached to me. Now she is my little shadow. She can't stand for me to leave her sight. If I walk outside or go on an errand, my children say she "screams" at the door and goes bonkers looking out the windows or racing through the house looking for me. She beleives that she should be in my lap as much as possible. Only one day into having this adorable little pug and I was hooked. She's my baby now. :-) Now she is gaining weight and has a few wrinkles around her neck and back. Coat is soft and clean and scabs are gone now. Not much facial wrinkling though other than under her eyes and when she raises her ears, so I wonder if she is a mix. DH says she looks full pug, but I've never seen a pug before so don't know what they are supposed to look like. Either way I don't care. She is very lovable, hilarious at times, and clearly loves me. She snores a bit, but not so much that I can't sleep through it. Now that I know her better, I really am amazed that she survived out in the brush. Here is a picture of Sophie. Yes, she sleeps with me. I have really spoiled this one. But its ok. I have four bipedal children that I have to worry about how they do in school, who they keep company with, what college they go to, etc. This one is just to spoil rotten! :-) Next time I'll post a picture of her in her Texas Tech jersey that she wore on game day Saturday when Tech played Baylor at Cowboy Stadium. Don't usually dress her up, but couldn't resist on getting her a jersey for game day when we visited my Mom and Dad in Lubbock (Red Raiderland) for Thanksgiving. But she doesn't like the wet grass in the morning so I may just have to break down and get her some booties for the early morning potty break!
