ATTACK! Of the Ladybugs!

New Waverly, TX(Zone 8b)

It's been happening this time of year for about 3 years now. I don't know how they are getting in, but they seem to like a particular corner of one window in my kitchen. Don't get me wrong, I like ladybugs, but these guys are really getting on my bad side.

Does anyone else have this problem, and what are you doing about it?

I remember visiting my relatives in Pennsylvania in October several years ago - first time I'd seen ladybug invasions. One cousin just vacuumed them up, as there was no way to shoo them out and then found an open vent where they were getting in. My other cousin got them on her back porch. We were sitting there chatting and suddenly here they came. She dragged me in the house right quick, and then the whole porch was covered with them. Amazing thing to see!

Wish I could remember the facts better. These ARE NOT our friendly little ladybugs. An entirely different species that has come in the same so many other invasives have.....aboard a ship from somewhere. Google them and I am sure you will come up with the full story.

Asian lady beetles

(The "make lemonade" part is that if they're getting in the house in great numbers, it's a tipoff that you have more caulking to do before winter. 8>)

We are not having a great invasion like KaperC describes, maybe only a dozen, so far. They will increase. I just wish I could find the opening they have found. DH has been painting, and caulking. It's just such a mystery!

Just google "ladybug invasion" and you'll find them in quite a few states. They were deliberately brought in to help control pests.
he he he - our government at work!
