What is the best way to ID an epi? I bought one at a garage sale not long ago. It is HUGE! I paid almost nothing for it. It had a small bud on it, but one of my cats broke it off. The lady I bought it from said it was called Queen of the night. She was glad to get rid of it,said her husband would be happy too:) Lucky me. Anyway, just wondered about a positive ID, not that I don't trust her but...
I have shared some cuttings and am trying to root some others as well.

9 out of 10 times its by flower. A few can be by leaves.

More than likely this one is Epiphyllum oxypetalum as that is one of the names that it is called.

I was hoping so. I have read several things here on DG about this one. One of them being that it only blooms on the older growth. If that is so I'm afraid I may have some issues. You see, this plant is SPRAWLING in all directions. I would love to "tame" it up a bit but don't know how to go about this properly so as not to hinder any blooming. Any advice or guidance?

One you can take some post and cord and tie it up and they carefully trim some.

I wouldn't trim it till it blooms so you'll know for sure what it is. I would cage it if it's wild growth. See picture of mine caged.

Mine was almost 4ft. wide before I caged it.I didn't have to cut one leaf off.If you do decide to trim it trim it from the bottom of the plant ,But keep in mind your not really suppose to trim an epiphyllum unless your doing it for clippings. If you cut the wrong leaves it might not bloom for years. Witch is a mistake alot of people make.
