I actually have 2 questions: My one large ginger is in a pot on my deck. I need to protect it for the winter. Can I dig it up and store it somewhere that doesn't frreeze?
Also, are gingers normally fall-blooming plants?
I am ignorant of gingers but this one got quite large and had a nice bloom. I think it is getting too much shade, though, so I am moving it next year.
winter treatment for my ginger roots
Do you have a place where the ginger can be stored while in the pot away from any cold weather for it not to freeze? You dont have to take it out of the pot to store it for the winter.
the pot is huge; I can't move it.
Then my choice would to be..wrap the pot up in some kind of blanket real good to insulate the pot then wrap plastic around it to keep the cold wet rain or snow off the pot..The ginger will stay dormant without water for awhile..
I keep trying to remember what I did last year. I don't think I did anything. I must have thought when the ginger died down for the winter, that it was dead. Anyway, I'll try some kind of protection. thanks for all the help.
