A near death rescue finds his forever home

Bryan, TX(Zone 8b)

When we found Caesar, he only weighed 37 pounds the vet was horrified that the dog was even alive. He said his bones alone should weigh more than that. He asked me to please consider euthanasia because it would be the most humane thing. I was about to say yes, after all he couldn't walk and we'd carried him everywhere. It seemed he weighed less than a sack of dog food :( But at that moment he looked up at me and seized my soul. Instead, I took him home and started him on soft food with Ensure mixed in. Two weeks and 8 pounds later, the vet put him on Metacam because the xrays showed no hip displaysia and they couldn't find any other reason he could not walk. Four very long months later, he stood. And after that, there was no stopping this warrior. That was May 2006 and I never intended to adopt him out like we do most of our rescues. But last night a siren came calling, he fell head over heels in love with her and left me, his devoted keeper. I couldn't be more thrilled. While I will miss him desperately, he deserves to be one of a few dogs and not one of many. This was the day we found him. It was all he could do to lift his head.
