Aroids

Worcester, MA

Please put definition in Gardenology or Botany sections.

Keaau, HI

Aroids = Plants in the Family Araceae.

Generally terrestrial and hemiepiphytic herbs.

The International Aroid Society has a good definition on its web site:

"Aroid is the common name for members of the Araceae family of plants, sometimes known as the Philodendron or Arum family. The occasionally beautiful and often bizarre combination of spathe and spadix called the inflorescence, sometimes referred to as a "flower", is a distinguishing feature of all aroids."

Dave always the smart one...well he definately earned his cookie for the day!

Keaau, HI

Thanks Trina! Is that a chocolate chip cookie?

Spathe & spadix do not define the Araceae from all other plant Families, as the Cyclanthaceae, Cyclanthus Family (Panama Hat plants, etc.) also have a spathe & spadix.
