Introducing 'Orange Zest'!

Clermont, FL(Zone 9b)

I would like to introduce the newly registered brugmansia, 'Orange Zest'. This seedling was the result of the hybridizing efforts of Gordo (Liz Fichtl) and involves a cross between brugmansia Jacayna x The Chief. I shared this plant with several people last year under the name Jacayna x The Chief #6, or JACH6. So if you have one of those plants, you can now officially call it 'Orange Zest'.

This seedling has performed well here in Florida. The plant stays small and will be a great one to grow in a container. My original plant is only 4 feet tall. Other seedlings from this same cross have reached over 6 feet tall.

'Orange Zest' has remained relatively pest free from day one and has been blooming non-stop all summer. I think 'Orange Zest' would be an ideal replacement for Morgansonne because it blooms more often.

I will have small Orange Zest plants available in Spring.

Good job Liz and Fred. That is a nice looking bloom and the small size, of the plant, should be a big plus for growers with limited space.
