Does anybody know what this is on my seedpod?

Looks like some kind of scale.
Did you try to scrape it off and look at it under a magnifying glass?
I'm sure someone will help you.

If it's cale...that big.. we're all in big trouble.. it looks like an infection on the plant material.. it seems to be made of plant material.. like it suffered some probing by a bird beak.. or a puncture from having something blowing and knocking aganst it .. or slug snail damage that's healing after ozing out some.. I've never seen the likes of it..
they look like coral pollops

Could it be SB on the seed pod? I would get rid of it and the plant..Yucky.. Or you could take it and have it checked to see what it is? Good luck...

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Yes..Wallice.. that was an early thought.. but I've neverseen it look quie like that... never as high and developed when it's on the stem.. where it's name comes from as that's where it displays.. wonder if it should be renamed.. in our fight to irrradicate it.. so it's discovered .. when it's seen on the seed pods also

What is SB ? What is Scale?
Gordon there is no damage on the seed pod, it looks like its glued on. It looks like little green worms in a circle .
The plant looks healthy its about to bloom in my sun room. I had 3 other seedpods that are fine from the same plant.
I did pollinate with big red flower plate hibiscus. Could that be the problem. It was an experiment

Maryanne Sb is stranglebrand. I just read it that mostly affects yellow brugs and is usually a problem along the stems of brugs. It is highly contagious to your other brugs. Like Gordon said. We are not sure. It would be great to send this in to be checked by a expert.. I would not chance it. Which brug is it? Maybe someone can replace it for you. I would not trade this brug with anyone as feared it might be contagious.... By the way I like your thinking in cross breeding..:)

LLLLiz have you ever seen the likes of that....
OH..poloniated with a hibiscus ... MMMM HA HA HAHA...well lesions from strange genetics... there you go.... that could difinately be the why of it... the what it is is still a concern... it could be just the unmanagable sections of the genetic chains.. comming to the surface..
can these be picked off.. what does it look like underneath if they can.. it looks more like blistering.. and would be unremovable..

Ok Gordon I cut one off and its green under it. It is not coming from the inside of the pod. It is on the outside its green at first and than it drys off and turns brown, so yes you can cut it off.

Gotta be barnacles...

What is a barnacle? I mean... I know what a barnacle is in salt water but what is it on a plant?

...a warty, vegetative thing. :-)

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

Is it possible it is some sort of gall?

Chickenville, FL(Zone 9a)

I have had a few warty seedpods that didn't seem to affect anything and no problems with the mother, father plants or seedlings but they were small raised bumps, nothing compared to that one. Those look like boils lol. I wonder if it is like those corky bumps that can appear on the stems of brugs usually near the roots? If you find out what they are plz post. This is kinda cool :)

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

It's like that cork that gets on some brugs. I read somewhere (can't recall where right now) it has something to do with hydration. I have had it in the past on a pod. I believe it is harmless.
