Wanted: Sweet Yuca/Casava plants

Geneva, FL(Zone 9b)

I am having a hard time finding sweet cassava (also known in Hispanic grocery stores as 'Yuca') plants. The roots for sale in the stores for food are treated and coated in wax--they never fail to rot when planted. I had some plants years ago but didn't take them with me when I moved.

I only want the sweet--not bitter--variety which is much safer to eat because the toxins are fewer and cook quickly away. The flavor is similar to potatoes and they have a great texture--even make great fries!

Anyone have plants to trade (or sell)? I can negotiate soemthing with the right person. I have some heliconias or gingers I could offer, though many are starting to go dormant so they might be fresh rhizomes. For a really nice sized plant I could trade one of my plumerias.

Anyone? Please send me a DMail of you know something.

Thanks!
Brad

Are you wanting the yucca plants that grow in new mexico? They are like the agavie around here they use the tops and roots but not sure for what. If you do I can get you some. I'll try and get a picture of one if my camara will work, lol. Susan

That's called yucca with 2 c's. The Cubans call the cassavea plant Yuca. it is the same plant used to make tapioca. Totally different plants though easily confused.

I did, however, get lucky and found some locally.

Thanks,
Brad
