Hi, :)
Beginning of September I have planted 4 different types of Autumn Crocus speciosum:
- C.speciosum 'Conquerer'
- C.speciosum 'Artabir'
- C.speciosum 'Cassiope'
- C. speciosum 'Aitchinsonii'
As I'm really limited in space I've planted them randomly here and there between other plants in containers and in the garden. Unfortunately I didn't put any labels, thinking I would recognize them once they bloom. But its more difficult than I thought! :(
Images on the web are often confusing but perhaps someone here knows more about them..I would appreciate very much any input! :)
This one I think could be C.speciosum 'Artabir' because of the strong veining and its elongated petals?
Autumn Crocus speciosum question..
I have some of this species, sorry can't help with your ID's, I just know how frustrating it is to lose the labels. I just try and enjoy them for what they are.
Thanks anyway Galanthophile :) yes I do enjoy them for what they are, they are also a valuable and late food source for bees and hoverflies!
You might try posting your photos at the Scottish Rock Garden Club plant ID site... there are many extremely knowledgeable and crocus-mad people there.
That's an excellent idea altagardener! Thanks for the tip! :)
Just went there but one has to pay for membership before posting, that would be around 30€ ..;(
I go on that site but don't recall having to pay. Will check it out...
Try this link http://www.srgc.org.uk/smf/
You have to pay to subscribe to the SRGC but not to the forums. Just register. The crocus forum is excellent (so is the snowdrop forum).
Thank you so much Galanthophile! I have just registred!
When I get an answer I will post it here, it might be interesting for others too and then I can add them to PF! :)))
On the SRGC site, click on Ian Young's bulb log archive, bring up the index and look under Crocus speciosus; lots of pictures of the different clones, and discussion.
Don
Thanks Don!! I'll do that!
