I saw white on my lantana and feared I had lace bugs, but this looks more like....procreation? Any suggestions? Should I save or dispose?
And there's a spider on the same branch.
Help...what have I got here?
The first one is parasitic wasp larvae eating a tomato hornworm. Looks really gross but that's the cycle of nature. I know some people like hornworms because they grow into a beautiful butterfly or moth, but I don't like them destroying my plants and I don't have any specifically planted for them, so we pluck them off and destroy them.
I can't tell what kind of spider is in the second pic, but spiders in general are good to have as they eat bad bugs, so I'd leave it alone. Once the food source is gone, it'll move on. If it starts killing your plant, then you might want to relocate it.
Those were my 2 choices: procreation or parasitic action. The spider was doing very well-catching bees and wasps. Back to my yardwork. I'm cutting back ornamental sweet potato vines. Thanks.
Those vines can sure take over, cant they? and they come back every year, dont care how much you cut them back or pull them up :) but its OK , they help shade my Hostas ;)
