Another close-up of a Nutmeg Mannikin

Sugar Land, TX

These birds are quite fun to watch and photograph. I'm lucky they like my seeds! :-)

They are beautiful Chris! Very nice shot!

Linthicum Heights, MD(Zone 7a)

Excellent shot, Chris. What is the estimated population in Texas ? Is it expanding ?

Sugar Land, TX

I really have no idea how many are in Texas but I know there are about 25-30 of them hanging around my yard. Earlier in the year there were only a few. Many of the ones I see are young also. I am watching them everyday.

Beautiful little bird Chris! Would love a chance to see one. Such an interesting color pattern on them.

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

How neat to have such a big group of exotic birds coming to your feeders (and into your camera range!) Do they eat the normal finch type foods?

Sugar Land, TX

My bird feed are just a mix of seeds that I buy in 50 pounds sacks and I can see that they just go after the smaller seeds. They really seem to love what I offer them. :-)

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

They sure do; they seem to have called all of their friends and relatives to come to your yummy buffet! How neat to have the flock come to you each day.

Sandusky, OH

Nice Shot Chris! Very nice looking bird's.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Such a cool looking bird and you are getting some great shots of them! I would love to see one someday...how far are you from San Antonio and is anyone else seeing them?

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Another great picture of these beautiful birds. I had to look them up and found they're also known as a Spice Bird,
Ricebird, Scaly-breasted Munia, and Spotted Munia. They're native to Southeast Asia. Wonder how they made it as far as Texas? You're really spoiling them with all the seed, bet they'll be remembering to stop at your house in the future years.
