I have several chicks I got from the feed store recently and most of them are doing really good. They are about 5 or 6 days old now. One of the chicks has an odd body shape, almost like a pigmy chick lol! It looks like its holding its wings out instead of tucked in like the others and its butt is too short.
I have seen it eat & drink and so I know its getting something in but I can tell its not keeping up with the others in size. It also peeps almost all the time. I don't know it this handful of symptoms makes since to anyone but Im wondering if the poor little guy will start taking a nose dive soon. Ill try to get some pics if you all think it may help.
Baby chick problem
maybe it is a true Tufted Rumpless Bantum Araucana
Thank you Donna, It could be a stray chick. I ordered all Blue Cochin Bantums.
We have never had any luck with the odd chicken in our order. Murray McMurray always sends a "mystery" chick with the other twenty-five, and only once have we been able to raise one of them to maturity. Yours is either a different variety or it's just not a very healthy individual; in either case it sounds like it's probably not going to thrive and there's not much you can do about it. That's a shame!
Well, as hard as it may be for my little man to deal with should it die, it will be a learning experience. What better way to teach the laws of nature than to see it first hand.
It is still hanging in there thou.
