i hate posting a picture of a dead bird but i am really curious as to what this is. i hope no one is offended. if so, i apologize in advance.

what a beautiful little water bird. i feel terrible.
it has sort of a flat appearance, not round and full-bodied.

would this be a young one or a female? i don't see the black stripe around the bill.
