Hibiscus Blooms On Nov 13, 2009 In Ft Lauderdale, Florida

Ft Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10a)

Here are some hibiscus blooms from a cool Ft Lauderdale today. Temperatures were in the 50's last night. Today's high was only around 70, so it brought out the colors in some of the blooms. This is Hibiscus "Symphony" alongside a container of red & white Gerbera Daisies.

O Jon, you have such beauties. I wish I had some of yours! And I wish I would live closer to your place. I would go visit you a lot!! LOL.

Ft Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10a)

LOL. That's funny, considering you live in a country that produces more flowers than anywhere else in the world. The Dutch sure do love to coming to Florida in the winter.....that's for sure.

Here's yesterday's Hibiscus "Space Oddity" bloom this morning (Day 2).

Never been to Florida Jon. Neven even been to the USA.
But it is cold, windy and raining here now. So maybe I come to Florida!

Ft Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10a)

LOL. Yes, that's sounds like The Netherlands in November. The weather there really seems to change quickly (as in colder) once you go from October to November.

great pics jon, love when you show the contrasts!

Thanks Debbie & Dee. Nice blooms Dee. Yes, your "Black Jack" is different. Ya know, when I first looked at yours Dee, I'm thinking it's Hibiscus "Cinnamon Girl". I have both and it looks more like "Cinnamon Girl" to me. Of course I'm not 100% positive because each cultivator can put out different looking blooms.

Hey Jon, I know why I have Symphony, Black Voodoo & Space Oddity on my wish list. All are Stunning. Love seeing the other flowers with your hibs.

Hey Dee, Love your Black Jack....looks like copper. Does it get darker with age? Your T Prince is fantastic....such beautiful colors. Reminds me of a big rainbow. Not an ugly stepchild in all of y'all's blooms. Thanks for brightening my weekend. Y'all did GOOD!!!

Bite your tongue Jon! This is my 3rd supposed Black Jack and it's the closet to being correct out of all three. At least this one is not a white and pink double like the other 2 :-)

Judy,

Don't know about the Black Jack as this is the first to bloom for me. I'll take another picture tomorrow to see how it changes.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, it sure is pretty, what ever it is. Be sure & show it to us again tomorrow.

LOL & Arrgh Dee. I'm biting my tongue, but I think I need "Alligator Arms" to keep me from typing. Hehe
Definition of "Alligator Arms" = Florida terminology affectionately used for a person who has arms that are soooo short that it makes it difficult to reach the keyboard for typing. Although it's most common usage is to describe a cheap Floridian male, who's arms are sooo short that he can't seem to reach his wallet when it's the time to pay for something.

After looking at other photos it can be "Black Jack" Dee. It's easier to tell the difference between the two when you get a cool weather bloom. Black Jack gets real dark when it blooms in cool weather.

Just a couple thoughts on "Black Voodoo" Judy. It's a super fast growing plant. I've had mine since April 2009 and have repotted it 3 times already. It also has some blooms that have a difficult time completely opening. They open 2/3 -3/4 and then need a "helping hand" to completely open them.

Here are a couple of "Day 3" blooms. This is "Space Oddity" on its third day.

dee, pls save a cutting of THAT Black Jack (since you have 3, lol) and your t. Prince for me, if they're big enough. Girl I know what you're going through with cutting them back, it's scary, I can't seem to do them all at the same time & never take enough off. Trying to be safe.

jon, if you ever decide to trade, pls put me on your list for the Berried Treasure (and too many more to list!). Or if you cut back, I'll send cash, if you're agreeable or have the time. It IS time consuming sending cuttings.
