Triphyllas

Freedom, CA(Zone 9b)

This thread will be for us to share all of the varieties of triphyllas. They are all members of the Section Eufuchsia. I am still learning about these myself, so I will be looking forward to finding out more about them here. This is my Billie Green. I have really fallen for this one, it grows so fast and has been so heat hardy. Now I will be finding out how well it doesn in the winter here in zone 9.

And here is the Gartenmeister Bonstedt I started from cuttings I treated so badly 14 weeks ago because I didn't think I really wanted to grow it...
How they did was documented in the thread:

Only one survived in the end. As a testiment to how hardy this triphylla is!
And here he is now. A little sun has helped it out allot. I am looking forward to the day it does as well as my Billie Green!

I had one of those for years. I wintered it by putting it in a space under the jaccuzi that has a dirt floor and is unheated. It probably would not be hardy up here, but they are easy to over-winter.

I am finding lots of Triphyllas while working on my project of a list of all the upright fuchsias I can find. I am trying to focus on ones for which there are also photos. So far, it looks like they all have at least a hint of orange and a long tubular sepal. When I get a bit further along in my project, I'll post a list of them here.
Which reminds me, in my search for a fuchsia last night, I found a really cool site out of Japan. I am going to add a link to it up in the 'sticky.' It has wonderful photos as well as the hybridizer and date of introduction. That part is posted in English, but the rest is in Japanese. It doesn't distinguish between uprights and hangers. The quality of the photos makes it worth taking a look at though!
