crocosmia bulb treatment

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I had to dig up all my crocosmia as they had spread and were overcrowded too. Some of the corms were even hiding under big, heavy rocks. I have replanted what I wanted to keep and shipped some to other DGers. But I have about 15 left that I want to save to plant at our new museum location after construction is finished.
Can I hold them over the winter in the fridge? or is there some other way to keep them dormant without killing them?

I think you can easily store them like you would Glads or other tender bulbs. I used to think they wouldn't survive our winters and dug them the first couple of years. I think a cool, dry place for storage works well, I don't think storing in the fridg is necessary since they don't require cold treatment (and it may be a bit too humid).

You could also pot them up into some compost and leave outdoors - they will be fine there until they find their new home. They are tough and like a weed in my garden!

right now I put them all in one of those mesh onion bags. Galanthopile, I would be afraid to pot them and leave them outside as my temps run between zones 6 & 7. thanks for help folks. I've got put up for the winter

I know you've taken care of it, but just as an aside. If they are Lucifer they will overwinter in pots in Z6. I don't know about the less hardy varieties. But Lucifer overwinters for me in pots right on top of the ground.

I don't know which one it is. I got them originally in a round-up. They are orange.

Lucifer is red. And it's a super good spreader also.
