Hummer with a problem

Melbourne, FL

I thought at first this hummer only was having a bad hair day.

But it looks like she has a scalp problem, maybe she was attacked by something.

Poor baby! But whatever it is, I'll bet she'll get over it. It's possible she got into someone's garage or shed and then got something messy on her head while she was trying to get out!

We found one trapped in our shed once and it was beating it's self against the flourescent lights trying to get out. Could have burned it on something like a light.

Could have taken a bath in heavy dose of Clorox while someone was cleaning the Bird Bath. I had one like that showing almost white or cream to white. Mine was around all summer and left on the Southward journey. Now you see this one in Fla. I wonder if it could be the one I had but it is now pushing new plumage. Mine left here about the first of October give or take a few days.

I can't tell from the photos if that is its own feathers pulled loose and sticking out, or if it got something sticky on its head and then something stuck to it. It looks more like something foreign stuck to the bird. Is the plant Crocosmia? It is on my wish list of plants for next year. As for white spots on Hummingbirds - I did an internet image search for white or albino Hummingbirds. It brought up a lot of pictures - so partial albino (there is a term/word for that, I forget what it is) must be fairly common in hummingbirds.

The plant is Firebush. The Hummingbird is normal except for the head/feather problem.
