My First Southern Snout.

They are so little and cute, the snout shows really well in this picture.

Here it is with the wings open, which is very hard to do because the don't rest with their wings open very often.

Keep an eye out, there is more than likely a whole bunch in your area. A couple years ago we had them land on our Oak just off the deck. It looked like the wind was blowing the leaves there was so much fluttering. Everywhere you looked there were snouts. Since then we haven't seen but a couple.

They've been all over everything down here lately. It does look like there's less now than there was before! I've never seen any of their cats, other than when I went on a sort of guided tour of a park years back. It was at a park on the Medina River in southern S.A. And since the snouts were doing one of their migrations at that time, there were caterpillars and chrysalises all the numerous spiny hackberry trees in the park. I've got one Spiny Hackberry growing in the yard that I rescued years ago, but have never have seen a single snout cat on it.
