light and heat for AV seeds

Mount Vernon, OH

Its says on the package, AV seeds need 12-14 hours of light. if i go sixteen hours is this too much? I can either go 16 hours of light or not enough heat but 12-14 hours of light....

Is there a reason you want to go 16? Plants need to rest too.

The place i can do them has a germination chamber. So they are open from 9:30 to 5. so I can do light then or light when they are closed. Or I can do them at home but I do not have enough heat...

Ok, well then just go with what works best for you and see how that works for the seeds. Don't sow all the seeds, just some. You know different things work for different people and condtions, so try and see. And check back and let us know the progress, success, etc. tish

If the light is too much-- cover the dome with a sheet of white paper--that will keep them from burning/turning yellow.

Sometimes places you don't think of produce the heat you want, like the vcr or on top of the fridge. A compact fluorescent is light enough if you have a desk lamp. Just a thought. I will have to figure out something, too, cuz I'm starting some florist gloxinia seeds soon. I know that for rooting tough plants, I sometimes put them on top of my fish tank light hood for the warmth, lol.

I have a heater near a table that germinates cactus. I hang part of the seding tray and dome over it and it worked. lol. But here one of my friends said I can germinate in their germination chamber. Yea!
