Zebra finch

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

to my surprise today there was a male zebra finch at my feeding station.
(forgive typing recovering from shoulder surgery) sorry no pictures can not handle camera right now.

what are the odds that this non native bird will survive a north florida winter?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Poor thing! I don't think the climate will give him trouble... I think they're native to a fairly temperate part of Australia... but they are really social birds, so one zebra finch on his ownsome is sad!

I am guessing he's an escaped pet. You may be able to recover him (if he shows up again) by putting some choice millet into a cage.

no cage, he was traveling with the house finches. put out some millet seeds for him.

I hope his feelings won't be too bruised in spring when the lady house finches rebuff his advances...

lol

Clifton Springs, Australia

He is a outback dweller where they are in their element..but very resourceful and adaptable, so he should be fine.... smart move to have teamed up with the locals. Lovely little birds. I see them occasionally, obviously escapees from someone's aviary, and I'm on the coast..
