Grape Hyacinth

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Again I am flummoxed because I was told Grape Hyacinth would bloom in shade. Mine barely have any blossoms. I guess I will have to move them. In the meantime, do y'all use anything to make them bloom more? Bone meal or Super Phosphates?

Calgary, Canada

Mine are in a part shade location and they do well there . Bone meal in the hole before they are planted is helpful as with any bulbs. They do multiply when in a full sun position. There are several varieties and colours of muscari. I have grown several of the blue varieties and the white one. The yellow one does not like our cold wintersin Zone 3.

What is the source of your shade? Often folks use small bulbs like Muscari under deciduous trees, where they still get some sun before the trees leaf out. If the shade is from a structure or evergreens, that could be the problem.

a Hickory and part of my greenhouse shade it. It gets mostly morning to noon shade.
