Someone please confiscate my shovel LOL
although I am too sore right now to use it anyway.
Maybe can't use it for several days .............

Question now is, what on earth do I do with the dirt I'm digging out? Im starting to have a humongous pile. like really gigantic.
The neighbors probably think I am insane.
One of my elderly neighbors has binoculars and she uses them in my direction lol

well I guess I will need a back-hoe to haul it off .

I need a liner. Where is the cheapest place on the internet to find one? I bought my last one on E'bay, but it was much smaller.
This time I am not so sure.

I will post pics when I can. Can't move right now.

I think I will have to sign a contract with myself and notarize it by myself with my camera video recording. So I can play it back from time to time as a reminder. Might have to post the contract on the fridge door....

Depending on how big, my local Home Depot sells the liner material by the foot. I believe it's 10' wide by however many feet long you need it.

the best place is AZ pond, I buy all my pond supplies from them. most of the time it is free shipping. Belle

One thing you will want to consider when buying a liner, is that companies online will only deliver to where the liner is dropped from the truck unless you want to pay more. I don't know if this is a factor for you or not, it was for us. The liners are very heavy. We ordered from a local nursery becuase they would deliver the liner to our back yard. Again, this may not be not be an issue for you, but it was for us.

As far as the dirt is concerned, have you considered what you are doing regarding waterfalls? We felt we needed to keep some of the dirt to give us the lift on our waterfalls. Also, if you are going to raise any garden beds, now would be the time. We did have quite a bit of dirt carted away and only had to pay the cost of the gas for the dump truck that was hauling it away, but we did get lucky because we have friends that have this type of truck and a backhoe.

Let us know what you end up doing. I'd love to see pictures when you are finished.

well there's not going to be a waterfall.
Just the pond. so that option is out. I don't plan on raising any beds. I'm done with those now.
It is probably going to be 20 feet wide, or so, so the 10 foot at the store won't work.
I will check out my local nursery.
Is 45 mil ok?
My other pond is 60 mil.

45 mil is fine - that usually has a 20 year warranty.

I've been doing a bunch of digging lately, for drainage, and have just been making some gentle berms with it. There's not as much dirt as it looks like in the pile, since it's sort of fluffed up. It's really only as much as the hole you dug out. I know that sounds terribly obvious, but we've found you really need to measure, not eyeball the waste dirt, because once it gets rained on a few times and settles good, it is much smaller.

Even if you don't want a waterfall in the pond, it might be nice to have a hillock near it. It offers a few more landscaping choices by being able to put plants up a little bit.

Around here there's a pretty active craigslist. Folks seem to have good luck getting rid of piles of dirt or stone that way. Someone near you has a low spot that they would love to fill...

Hope any of that helps. Show us some photos as you get going...
