Some of you may know I've been having trouble with my fall veg garden this year. This is not the first veg garden I have attempted and failed at, but I know it just comes with being a beginner. I do think I am learning from my mistakes, and I've had some successes to look back on. I just wanted to say how much I love this community and the fact that so many of you post pics of your harvests. Whenever I feel let down or disappointed in my garden I can log on to DG and peruse all of your wonderful pictures. Everytime I do I feel inspired to read more about what I might be doing wrong, try harder, and NOT GIVE UP! So, thank you fellow veggie gardeners for your silent encouragements! I am so thankful for you :)
You inspire me...
Hello Passiflora. Don't be shy, tell us your troubles. DG makes us all better gardeners and I rush here every morning as the coffee is making. I learn something useful almost everyday for which I'm also thankful.

Absolutely, passiflora! Help is but a keyboard away. And at least some of us have probably gnashed our teeth over the same problems and have found either solutions or work-arounds.
Twiggy, I check in on DG every morning after I let the pup out and feed the chickens. And then through the day if I'm home. I'm sure to learn something and/or read someone's funny account that brightens my day!
For those who don't know...this was my original post describing my current dilemma:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1053332/
I posted in 3 communities (Veg Gardening, Beginner Veg Gardening, and Florida Gardening). From the advice I've received so far it seems I planted on time for my area, but we are having too warm of a fall for cool veggies. I plan on starting over today and just re-sowing everything. Also, I will mulch this time. Still open for more suggestions! :)
Another big consideration is depth of seeds. I used to plant too deep and now I tend to plant too shallow. That's the biggest challenge for me. Another thing can be too little or too much fertilizer. It can be a fine line if you're using any artificial stuff.
I think your weather is much more favorable now than a month ago. I feel like fall just started a couple weeks ago with cool nights and I can tell a big difference in my cole crops. They've really kicked in where before some were very slow. I still have to grow lettuce in part shade. It has been in the 80s day time and they would be a lot happier with cooler temps.
I had to plant my fall spinach two or three times before anything came up, and my carrot row is pitiful. I swear I'm going to try planting by the moon next year and see if I have any better luck with things like carrots and onions and leeks. I have planted carrots several times, even using homemade seed tape, and nada, rien, nothing! Or a few pitiful individuals. And I've been gardening for years. So don't feel bad.
Are you making sure that your seeds have plenty of water? I know that's supposed to be very important with some types.
"Whenever I feel let down or disappointed in my garden I can log on to DG and peruse all of your wonderful pictures. Everytime I do I feel inspired to read more about what I might be doing wrong, try harder, and NOT GIVE UP"
passiflora, "doing wrong", "try harder", and "NOT GIVE UP"...those are the times when you should post and bring us into your garden. And trust me, we'd all love it!! :>)
Feel free to post such topics/questions as "I'm getting ready to plant my Fall crops, any tips?" Or how about, "Can someone help me with what to add to my soil for XXX" (fill in with tomatoes, potatoes, herbs, whatever).
Ya see, there are lots of folks who will benefit from your questions. And there are lots of folks with lots of ideas and experience to guide you along, preferably BEFORE you jump in the water on your latest move. So you see, your newness to gardening is a plus, it's a good thing (and forgive me for quoting Mawtha Stewart!) *grin
Shoe, wishing you and yours the very best!
Hey Passiflora07 don't get discouraged. You haven't failed anything. You learned something and are that much closer to success. I love gardening but it keeps me humble as there is so much I don't know. People here on DG are wonderful. They Laugh, inspire and just share their thoughts with you. Godspeed----G
