CLOSED: Wanted: thanksgiving cactus or Easter cactus

Ocean Springs, MS

I would like some cuttings of thanksgiving cactus and/or Easter cactus. I have red mistletoe cactus, unknown epi's, and Rhipsalis elliptica rooted cuttings for trade. Thanks, julie

Blackshear, GA

Hi Julie,
I have several different colors, but have to say, don't know what color they are till they bloom. They are just setting buds now. I have red, pink, white (really a blush) salmon, fushia. Each year I say I am going to label them and for some reason never do. I even have one that is called limelight (supposedly a light green) but it just bloomed a blush color.
If you would like to wait for awhile I can send you some of each color. Let me know.
Hope everything is going better for you.

Thanks, but I wanted them for a November swap I'm doing right now. You are so sweet to offer them to me. love, julie

Mine have buds on them too. I would hate to cut them if they are getting ready to bloom. When do you need the cactus by? I have red & white. I have some other colors too but don't know what they are. Mine are not labeled either but definitely my red and white ones, I can tell from the buds.

ok I have to ask what is probably obvious, but when it comes to cacti I'm a newbie, what is the difference between the thanksgiving, christmas, and easter cacti? or are the all the same thing

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

oh, there is a thread out there that explains it. I'll have to find it...

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

that would be awesome because I am very confused and I even have babies of each

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

I have both Thanksgiving cactus and Easter cactus and the blooms on my Easter cactus are bigger. Also, the Easter cactus blooms around Mother's Day. I know there are difference in the leaves. I went over to the epis forum, and I can't seem to find that thread. At one time, I had a picture of it, but I lost it when my hard drive crashed this summer.

Anyway, I believe the leaves with the pointy edge is the Thanksgiving Cactus.

Ocean Springs, MS

Yes, all three have different types of leaves.

maybe that's the problem then, I recieved leaf cuttings of each so none of them are big enough to tell apart yet!

I have several colors, but like Lili, mine are blooming also. dmail me later if you would like some of mine for postage. I have red, fushia, white with a blush of pink, salmon( tag says white, starts out white, but bloom opens to the most gorgeous salmon/coral color) christmas fantasy (salmon also), one called limelight(supposed to be a lt green, not!) I will try to take pictures tomorrow and share them.

Please post them when you get time. Dori and I just completed a trade and she sent me 4 different colors. I am wanting a salmon/coral. We will have to do a trade this spring, GAgirl! If limelight isn't green, what color is it?

Google it, it is what I would say is lt salmon/yellow? I only have one of those and it isn't very big. I bought it last year and it was just a baby. I will post pic when it gets light outside.

Oh, YES Dori!!!! I am very happy with what you sent me. I only had that one until you sent me 4 of yours in the trade. I love them all!!! I would like to end up with each color eventually. You gave me a good start and I love them! I remember you posting that pic before but I had no idea it was limelight. They are all so pretty!

I know you have the salmon and that fushia and white that GAgirl posted. Well, you know what I have and don't have because you sent them to me LOL!!! I am also wanting to get Easter Cactus as I have 0 of those. We will need to set up another trade so it is fair on your end. I have more episcias but I am a little afraid to send them out now this this weather we are having. They are so sensitive to the cold.

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

the epis are tough plants. They are OK as long as temp does not drop below 32 outside. If they are in the envie, I think they would be OK. Outside in below 32 temp will cause frost burn.

Northeast, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks, but these are episcia plants. They are a cousin to the african violet and are very sensitive to cooler temps. They are also called flame violets :)

Ocean Springs, MS

You girls really have a lot of beautiful plants. I got Easter cactus and will trade some in the spring.
Love that Limelight! Gotta get that one. love, julie
