Croton flowers

noonamah, Australia

Saw something today I've never noticed before, croton flowers. Not that they're spectacular to look at. It's obvious why crotons are grown for their foliage and not the flowers.

Huh, I never knew crotons flowered. Thanks for the photos.

Gotta chalk that up to "Learned something new today" .. I have had crotons for a long while, and have never seen a flower of any sort on any of them.

I checked another of the crotons and it's got flowers as well. They look to be clones of one another. My other crotons are still small so I don't expect flowers for a while yet. It'll be interesting to see whether any sort of fruit/seed develops.

TB, I think yours might be buds or seeds. The flowers remind me of little pom poms.

That's quite different. The buds on yours don't look like what's in my photo. Unless, as you say, the flowers are spent and that's fruits developing. I'll keep an eye on them and see what they do from here.

The first pic is of the female flowers, the pom pom type flowers are the male pollen bearing flowers. The male flowers and female flowers bloom at different times on the same plant to quarantee cross pollination.Every so often both will appear at the same time.these are the male flowers
