We were burning leaves the last two days. Had numerous problems with chickens playing in the leaves during the day, but tonight we decided to roast hot dogs & marshmellows with the few coals left. I didn't think this was a big deal. Gave mom her hot dog, which i had no interference while cooking, & Esme (MG) promptly appears, hops up on mom's lap & takes a bite out of the bun as mom is taking a bite out of the other end. Mom tears that piece off & gives it too her. Which starts the crowd running. Straight to mom. Esme & Clove sit on her lap to eat bits of bread while the others fight over what random pieces I throw out. no big deal still.. We move on to marshmellows. BIG PROBLEM. I guess they assume I'm roasting bread. I had to fight chickens to roast my marshmellows! They were walking right thru the hot coals. Didn't bother them a bit. I can't tell whether they are just dumb or chickens have no feeling in their feet. I finally relented & gave a marshmellow to Silkie (cold one) who took off with her new found bounty totally unaware as to how to eat this item. Took them 30 minutes to eat it. It was cute. Silkie reapeared under my feet soon tho & started eatting my graham crackers when i leaned down too far to check my marshmellow i was currently roasting. So please tell me.. has anyone else had problems with burning things & chickens being a pain during this. They had 3 acres of yard to play in yet they wanted to play with fire. Mom said she chased them out of the fire all afternoon. I think they want to be on the dinner table not out in the yard.
Roasted Chicken
Oh no! Pyromaniac chickens!! I thought maybe it was going to be a story about a roo invited for dinner...lol. I love reading your stories, you are so descriptive I can see it happening.
That is great! I cracked up... so I have nothing to add as far as opinion.. Felt like I was right there.. :)
Ha! Hot coal-walking chickens. You should put up a sign and charge admission!
