Has anyone read and/or put into practice the principles taught in "Fresh-Air Poultry Houses: The Classic Guide to Open-Front Chicken Coops for Healthier Poultry" by Dr. Prince T. Woods (1924)???
What are your thoughts on this book??? If you tried it, what was your experience with it?? Is the book worth buying?

I have been doing this method for quit awial now and I see alot of difference in my flock. I also do the deep litter method. I also free range my flock.
What convinced me is I have about 10 to 15 of my flock that roost in trees. They were healthier and out laid the chickens in my coops! Now they are all happy girls and boys!

I ordered the book and it just came. It looks interesting. We already have a new chicken coop, but with this as inspiration maybe we'll leave the two large screened window on the north side permanently open instead of closing them at night. Richard, if you're in the Pacific Northwest it probably doesn't get as cold there as it does in NJ, though. I can recall when Hales Passage near Bellingham almost froze over and when the ferry ropes were ice-encrusted, but normally it didn't seem to be as wintry there as here.
Most years it doe not get as cold. If I remember right the Dr. was doing his research in upstate New York. Last year it got down close to single digits where we live!
