Just a few hibiscus photos from today starting with Hibiscus "Misbehavin"
Hibiscus Photos Nov 4 2009
absolutely gorgeous, The first one doesn't even look real it is so vibrant. WOW
GAgirl1006 has a point Jon, "Misbehavin" looks so vibrant that anyone who passes buy would think its a fake, they would probably want to touch them to see if their real or not, definitely outstanding colors it has and definitely a WOW!
All the rest absolutely Gorgeous like aways Jon.
Wilfred
Love that Misbehavin'...and triplets to boot! High Voltage is always a favorite as well :-)
Thanks. I was pleasantly surprised this morning when I looked out in the back and saw those three "Misbehavin" blooms screaming at me. Even "Jaws" was chattering about them.
Oh JAWS!? Haven't heard about him in ages and how is that little critter? and what about Pete and Repeat?
Hi Jon, all are stunning. Got to pick Wahine as my favorite but High Voltage sure is pretty. Heck, any would win a ribbon. Thanks for sharing with us.
Judy
They're all doing good. Jaws (alligator) just finished brushing his teeth. Pete and Repeat (geckos) were getting too fat so they're on a diet now. I had to get a carnivorous plant that eats insects to keep Pete and Repeat from overeating. Here's a photo of my new carnivorous "Pitcher Plant". I've named it "Wolfgang". I'm hoping it will help Pete & Repeat lose some weight!!!
Jon
yikes! those pitchers look big enough to swallow Pete and Repeat whole! If they get anywhere near that plant, they won't just be losing weight, they'll be putting their lives in jeopardy! Lol.
Wolfgang, doesn't Valerie Bertinelli/Eddie Van Halen have a son with that name?
Jon
Another series of beautiful blooms, thank you.
Tina
LOL Dee. If "Pete" or "Repeat" go missing I'll know the first place to look. They don't mess with the Venus Fly Trap so they probably know better than to mess with "Wolfgang". Not sure about Valerie Bertinelli's "Wolfgang"??
How beautiful they are! Especially misbehaving! wow.
If memory serves me correctly I think they call him 'Wolfie' for short...kind of a random trivia thing that stuck in my brain for some reason :-)
what do you feed your Wolfgang?
I don't have to feed "Wolfgang" as he feeds himself. The plant secretes something into the liquid in the "pitchers" that attracts insects. The insects are drawn to the top rim of the pitchers and many of them have a "slip and fall accident".....and down they go. There is also some kind of acid like substance in the pitchers which breaks down and dissolves insects. Wolfgang's main competition for food out back is the Venus Fly Trap named "William" (aka Venus William). Get it??? LOL
always clever Jon...miss you!
LOL. I'll bet you'd never guess I was the one that came up with everyone's nickname when we were kids. The funny part is most of them "stuck" and we still call each other by those names. Everyone still calls my mom "Pebbles". It's kind of funny now that were older.
Oh, I believe that alright :-) What was your nickname?
Oh no. This is sooooo embarassing. My nickname was "Penguin". They still call me that sometimes.
did that have anything to do with your playing hockey, Penguin?
LOL. Yes, it did Dee. When I was a kid I was a HUGE fan and obsessed with the Pittsburgh Penguins of the NHL. They were soooo bad back then, but I wore something with their logo on it practically every day. I listened to every single game on the radio even though the radio signal would fade in and fade out. I never would have dreamed I'd move to Florida, become a season ticket owner with the Florida Panthers team and now root against the Penguins each time they play down here in Ft Lauderdale.
awww, Penguin has matured into a Panther :-) More fitting these days I think...and I'm sure 'Pebbles' is fine with her name, she would never want to mature into a 'Boulder'
LOL! Hey Jon, so finally every one gets to see you at last. LOL! don't you just love it, personal photos are so much fun. LOL!
Thanks Jon for making me laugh so hard.
Yeah, so I would totally give my left arm or leg for some seeds of that Misbehavin! That's got to be the most awesome Hibby I have ever seen. The info on the pitcher plants is cool as we have someone sending a bunch in our group one. So I will tell them what you said about the insect thing. I guess it would be kinda cool to plant those next to Brugmansias? Natural pest protection!
Jon, you are just rubbing it in; my MisBehavin was the plant that got snow scale and it had to be destroyed. Not fair!
Your plant looks very. very happy.
love that misbehavin jon and it's always good to hear the kids doing so well! a little extra weight at their age is nothing to worry about. Their good kids!
Misbehavin has been behaving even better since I "whacked her" about 2 months ago. She was "all legs" and not much "bod". LOL She now has developed a "fuller figure" since her pruning.
Jon
That is stunning, Jon. Glad you talked me into whacking my Hibs. It is amazing how well they have responded to a good cutting & they do look happier. Be easier to get in the GH too. Your Misbehaving is stunning. Nothing new to show us??? Hint, hint!!!
Judy
They do respond well Judy. I prefer to prune mine in the summer when they're not blooming all that much due to the heat. It makes me feel like I'm not missing out on as many blooms. I just got back from visiting my brother, over the weekend, in Sarasota, FL....so no recent photos. I did miss out on a few good photos today. I saw the blooms just as it was getting dark.. What a bummer.
beautiful blooms!
