I received a split leaf tree Philodendron and I have no clue are they fast or slow growers?
Spilt leaf Tree Philo advice?
Philodendron bipinnatifidum takes awhile to get of size, but once it does it grows quickly, if given the right conditions.
Be sure to give it a large pot. Indoors, it can grow to your ceiling. If it doesn't get room to expand, it's growth will be stunted.
Thanks Dave...you are the best!
E komo mai! You're very welcome Trina!
Aloha, Dave
ok I repotted this the way Lari Ann told me too after kitty and puppy thought it should be used as a chew toy/battering ram....so here is keeping my fingers crossed!
Trina: I bet your indoor jungle is amazing! I can't imagine bringing having one of those monster P. bipinnatifidum inside the house unless I could have a very large "plant only" room. The tree Philo's do get very large. We've had an area on the side of our house with these growing for more than 34 years, some of them are huge.
gosh I hope mine gets that big, I just hope it survives
They look brilliant Lin. I've only got one small one but it's a real frilly/lacy leafed one. Was thinking of getting some of the normal ones, there's a lot of 10 on Ebay. Of course, having a big garden means one of a plant tends to get lost. You need to go bulk. 10 will be a bit more visible ....... after how many years did you say? 34?
10? I'd be in heaven but I think my hubby might have a heart attack if I had 10 of them with everything else that's in here!
Trina, I've seen pictures of all your plants ... do you ever lose your kids and pets in that jungle! ^_^
I just went out in the dark to take this picture, LOL. This is a Philodendron that I've had for quite a few years. It was just a lil' guy when I bought it and I can't remember the name. I remember having one labeled Philodendron "Hope" but I don't think it's that one because someone told me P. Selloum 'Hope' only gets to be about 24" tall. This is of course in a container stuck out under a tree in the backyard ... if it were in the ground it might very well only be @ 24" or so in height. If anyone recognizes this one I'd love to know a name!
no I never loose them in the plants, sometimes I wish I could loose them in the plants, but nope I don't get the lucky...LOL
^_^ I understand completely! I don't have children, but I sometimes wish I could lose my DH of 40 years in the plants! (and I know he sometimes wishes the same for me too!)
Trina: Sorry about hijacking your thread! And, I just realized I should not be asking for an ID on this forum either. Someone told me a few months ago that all ID inquiries should be on the ID forum that regular forums should be left for chat.
oh no for aroids they tell you to come here anyway! LOL Yours kinda looks like a cross between my giant radiatum and my stenoblum...I love it...but we both know I like the jungle look! LOL
Lin, your garden photo http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=7297940 looks great. So nice and tidy. That reminds me, I should get off this computer, get the ride-on mower out, service it and touch up the lawn. Now that the rains have started there's lots of mowing to be done.
By the way, no idea on the NOID, other than it does look a lot like a small Philodendron bipinnatifidum.
Why thank you Tropic! That photo is from a couple of months ago .. the Caladiums have died back now, normal for this time of year. We are still having warm weather here in Florida with highs in the low 80ºF range and lows at night around 65ºF. It's very dry here and rain was predicted for this weekend but so far, nothing. Now the weather reports are saying tomorrow night and into Monday we might get a little precipitation. I sure hope so.
The Noid Philo has always seemed to me to be identical to P. bipinnatifidium also so maybe that's exactly what it is.
We have a riding mower too and during the summer I mow every week but this time of year we can go every two weeks which is nice!
Well, I have an early morning flight to head to visit my youngest sister in North Georgia. My husband is taking me to the airport at 6 O'clock in the morning so I better finish packing!
Have a fun and safe trip plantlady!
Yes, Lin's noid is Philodendron bipinnatifidum, dwarfed by being rootbound.
Put it in the ground and it will get large.
UPDATE: The tree has appeared to stabilize, it has stopped it's rapid decline, but as yet does not appear to be getting better. But at least it's not getting any worse so I am thankful for that
