I live in Southern California,. My plants are starting to loose the leaves fast, and I am wondering if I should just strip the leaves off now and put in my garage for the winter..??
We are still having warm weather in the 80"s during the day, but gets to about 50 at night...
But one week is warm and the next week is cold and windy.. Just never know....
Should I stop watering...
P.S. I have 400 plants in pots...and it has been a very beautiful season
Time for winter storage?????
They are all dry, we haven't had any rain. I have always ( 2 years) put them in the garage with no water for the winter, but since I have got so many now ( I do have a problem ,Yes ). I was wondering if I can leave them all outside for the winter.. We do not get frost here .... but they will get the rain water, is that alright?? The coldest nights I get
here are about 45 degrees..
Thanks so much for your help, I am still learning, but so enjoy them.
What I do is put up a portable canopys that you use pipe flea markets have them I buy big rolls of heavy plastic and cover these using plastic spring clamps I enclose these make 1 door where I can go in there and water now and then. If you leave them out side and its cold and wet supposed to be a wet winter think about it. We know what happens then rot
Your right, don't want any to rot so I will move them into the garage.
But you mentioned you go into the covered area now and then to water.
I don't give mine any water for a couple months over winter , is that ok
or should I give water sparingly ?
Thanks again so much for your comments.
it gets very hot here I don't take them out and in I leave them I water very little plus I have other things in there that need it. They basiclly get misted.
Palmtreepam, I would think your drainage is good there, so they should be fine outside unless you get a freeze. I'm in Santa Ana and have two in the ground and one in a large tub. They all do fine outside...even the cuttings I took last fall. I have friends in Mission Viejo who have about a dozen plumies, and they have no problems with theirs in the ground. Of course, we haven't had much rain the last few years...if we really do get an "el nino" winter, all bets are off!

All my plumeria are in the sun room, I had few with buds but some never opened, it just dried up. Is this expected? The room is attached to the house off the family room and is heated. Belle
bellieg, i can be expected if the plumie doesn't have the right amount of light, heat and nutrients. you mention that the room is heated. what are the conditions like in the room?
Tucson,
Our sun room is 4 season and all glass so it has lots of light.I will post them tomorrow because someone just emailed me to post them. Do I need to fertilize them during winter? Belle
i fertilize some my plumeria during the winter. HOWEVER, they are treated like it's almost summer. that means they are on heat mats and under lights. it's winter outside but now where they are. LOL just want to clear that up because i know people say not to water plumeria during the winter. well, you always have to consider the conditions in which the plumeria are during winter. you'll fry your plumies on a heat mat in winter if you don't water them. : )
