My first Jacayna bloom

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

I purchased Jacayna earlier this year. It somehow managed to escape being ravaged by grasshoppers and has finally produced it first bloom. It hadn't opened all the way when I went out to take a look. It's still in its white stage. It was so windy that I couldn't tell how fragrant she is.

So far, no color. Maybe tomorrow. This is only her third day. The bloom has opened all the way, but the edges are slightly brown from wind damage. I love the 6 pointers on her blooms.

It looks like a large bloom, is it? I am so happy for you!

Would you mind if I ask where you bought this one?

Debra, This is her first bloom so it may be smaller than normal. Liz or Paul would have a better idea of how large the blooms get. Mine is 9" long from the top of the calx to the bottom of the re-curved skirt. I bought her not because of size, but because her blooms are 6 pointers instead of the normal 5. I'd like to use her in a number of crosses.

Dee, I'm pretty sure I bought this one from Liz, arghyagardens on e-Bay. She's known as gordo here on Dave's.

She is still a creamy white with yellow ribs. No color, but the bloom is still in good shape despite the big wind the night she opened. She has been open for 5 days now. According to photos I have seen, only the skirt bottom colors. Maybe her next bloom will have color, but it could be that the color pales in cool weather. Here is a link to photos of her in color.
