Philo babies

Blackshear, GA

Can these babies be broken off and rooted? I accidently broke one and stuck back in the soil and it seems to be doing ok, but this plant is different from any of the others I have.

GAgirl, I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question but I just had to reply when I saw where you live..

I have said for a very long time, I am going to write a book about how different cities, towns, and such got their names... because...

I have wondered and laughed many times at the thought of a Georgia resident visiting here in Alabama.. and someone asking, "Where are you from? The GA resident pointing eastward and saying, "Waycross Georgia". : )

Hope someone comes along with your answer soon.

The mother is BEAUTIFUL. Just guessing I would say yes but I would nurture the one you knocked off for a couple of weeks and make sure it is looking happy before I remove one and send it to me, I mean root it. LOL Seriously that is how I would handle it. i would love to know the name of that one. I thoght i was looking at a Black EE at first. Brandy

Daisy,
that is too funny, have never thought about it that way!! Actually, If you look on the map, roads from Albany, GA;Savannah, GA; Valdosta, GA; Jacksonville, FL; and brunswick, GA all meet and cross in Waycross, hence the name "where the ways cross".

Brandy, I caught that little typo, LOL. It is a gorgeous plant. I have never seen another like it. I was thrilled when I saw it and didn't even ask 'how much', just said 'I want it'.
If the little baby makes it, I will send her to you, you have been a wonderful trading buddy. The funny thing is, that all the babies are green, but when the new leaves come out on the mother plant they are almost black. Going to be interesting to see if they turn purp/black. The baby seems to be doing ok, it is the one at the bottom of the pic kinda by itself. It has been there over a week, seems with no ill effects. I will check to see if it has put out roots.

Look at this one Brandy....

I had no clue there were so many varities. It seems everytime I think I know plants I find a whole new world of them, That pic is beautiful as well. Im adding onto my GH LOL I would give them a little more time unless you just want to experiment with one or 2. If they do well then have fun. They are definatly beautiful and unusual. Boy I love unusual. A week is good But I would still give her anoher week unless you just have to look. I would probably peek knowing me. About the color Maybe they have been more shaded than mom and just need alittle more time.

Common for seedlings/youngsters to not have their full, true color.

Gasrocks,
Do you know if I can 'break' the babies off the parent plant and pot them up? Will they form roots?

They look too small to me. Why not wait? If they do not have their own roots, they probably will not make it or only a small % will.

I'm on the side of those who say to wait a little longer. I have one just like your 'mother plant'. It was just labelled philodendron when I bought it. You wouldn't know what it's proper/full name is would you?
