This is an amazingly cool picture. I just bought one of these on markdown at Wal-mart. It has no flowers and I would never have guessed its seeds would look like this. I've been reading everyone's comments and can't wait to see how things go with mine. Can you tell me how much of the bulbous structure should be above the soil line?

I guess that sort of depends on how much of the roots you want to show, and how much you want buried. These plants are popular mostly because you can replant them with a lot gnarled, succulent, twisted roots showing... but show too much and your plant will have trouble supporting itself, both mechanically and nutritionally. but you might be amazed how much root you can actually keep above ground, as long as you feed it and support it somehow.

I just posted a question about my desert rose dropping leaves. Maybe I will try planting it deeper and see if that helps. Thanks.

they all drop leaves this time of year... I would not plant it deeper... likely to make it rot.

Okay, I will not plant it deeper. It is down to one leaf. We'll hope for the best.
