I really love this hybridizer's streps. Where can I find them?
Thanks much!

J. Ford Hybrids- Where to Find?
there isnt anyone that sells just them, you will have to contact collectors and different greenhouses,Ive looked for years for some of his,
just do some research and decide what you want and put feelers out for what you want,i know ive got some of them
Hello everyone!! I now have a computer but am frantically ironing to get clothes ready to go see grand children.
Shanika, you do just have to hunt and peck for Ford's great streps. I also have some when you decide what you do want. Look under all the vendors like Lyndon Lyons, Gary Mikita, etc. like Jim says.......each vendor seems to carry a few of Ford's streps.
Welcome back Gail!!!!! Gosh, we have missed you:)
His hybrids are simply awesome. I love not only the colors, but the shape of the flowers. A lot of them have that twisty thing going on in the center.
I've compiled my "Wish List" and am going to go search those vendors I know of. I will post the list here too. I'm happy to buy any leaves that anyone has!

Looks like I'll have to find some collectors who might have Fords. I'll ask around too at my next AV club meeting on Nov. 9th.
Another hybridizer that I've come to love is Nancy Block. Her "dilute" series is smashing!!!!!!
Jim
I didn't see Kings cloak at Lyons....?
Shanika
Shanika,
I sent you a d-mail :)
Connie
Each one of us is different as I think all of Nancy Block's dilute series begin to look just alike........but I do love Ford's plants............
lilriver on ebay is her official site for buying her plants.............
TY Gail;)!
Mr. Ford passed away a couple of years ago, but the farm is still there. I was planning on going out to see if they kept up the Streps. He had a rather small greenhouse he worked in. Oddly enough despite having nearly 800 varieties of daylilys he never dabbled in them. They also grow Strawberries, and Blueberries, mostly you pick. It is in a largely Amish area. I get over there a couple of times during the daylily bloom. They are closed for the season now. If anyone is interested I'll let you know what is going on in the spring.
Wow Bonnie, that Strep. is a beauty!!
Lynn
i would be
Lotsalilys, you have just become my 'new best friend' ^_^ if you can find Ford streps.
Awesome looking strep, Bonnie!!!

Yes, Lotsalilys, please find out if there are any streps available. I would be most grateful.
Bonnie, that strep is just beautiful. :)
I don't know if there is anything left of them. There was talk of shutting down the whole place. I kiddingly told one of the Amish girls that was digging plants for me that I'd like to buy it. LOL. The story is both their daughters live out of state and want nothing to do with it, and of course Mrs. Ford is getting old. Here is a photo of part of the daylily garden.
So beautiful! That pic should be on a calendar..:)
Here is a view from another end. It really is a nice farm. If we had the bucks we would probably do it. I am sure the place turns a nice profit.
One interesting thing is, I must have visited that place at least 24 times while Mr. Ford was alive and I never saw or met him.

Well, I guess I don't need to ask about the Streps, it sound like they got rid of them all.
Adding that one to my list of violets to get in the Spring! It's beautiful. I love pink w/green and white trimmed flowers. And the foliage on this one is my favorite too: ruffled girl! Nice growing, Mrs. Bonnie.
As always, you have yet another piece of eye candy. Could that be powdery mildew? I was reading Dr. Optimara the other day and it looks a lot like the pic. You know so much more about them than I do but that is what it reminds me of.
Connie
i don't think so, as powdery mildew is damp, this is very dry, really weird.lol
bonnie
I've had leaves to look like that in the past, never knew what it was. It does look like powdery mildew. I'll google and see if I get any hits for "powdery mildew on streps".
Based on the google results, it does not look like powdery mildew. Maybe botrytis(grey mold)?
OOPS! See...I know nothing LOL! It just reminded me of an a.v. leaf that I saw. I have never seen what it looks like on streps. So sorry.
i just looked at pictures of grey mold & it's not really like that either.don't know if i will ever find out.
bonnie
Bonnie,
It could be excess fertilizer salts in the soil.I recently had that happen to a lot of mine, especially babies,or it could be too much water.Hopefully Jim,Gail,or others that know more than I will see this post.
Lynn
thanks all for the info, really appreciate it.
